Default Last Chance: Save My Books

I have about four boxes of books. Most of them are textbooks my wife and I (nursing) collected over the years. Some of them I was unable to sell second hand thanks to University and Publisher's policy to crank out new editions every 6 months. Others were books that I thought would be useful down the line for other things.

Long story short, my wife is sick of having these boxes in the house and I've realized those in the boxes that I haven't even looked at in 3+ years are of no use to me. We've been unable to find a good way to donate them or otherwise give them away for someone else to use. Our only option at this point is to rip off the covers and throw them in the recycling bin.

This seems like such a waste and it pains me to do that with these. I'm confident someone has a better idea for getting rid of these things that will benefit someone. So please, fire away any suggestions you may have.

I had a hell of a time trying to get rid of books when I last moved. Like you, it was mostly textbooks, so used bookstores, etc. weren't really interested in taking them, the Public Library said they didn't have room to store them, etc.

I never thought it would be so hard to donate books. Eventually, they ended up being donated to Goodwill -- it's the only place that would take them off my hands.

You could post a list, let us see what we want, and then arrange one hour that people could stop by to grab them from you.

Odds are within the community here there is somebody who could make use of some of the books at least.

** Please note that while this is my idea, I take absolutely no responsibility for people picking apart your reading habits.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'll try to make a list in the next couple days.

It's not as easy to get an organization to take your old books as you would think. Even for free.
