Default Ski Lessons in/near Calgary

So, I find myself in a bit of a bind. I get home tonight and there's a message on my answering machine- COP has decided that less than 2 day's notice is enough time to cancel ski lessons that had been booked for weeks. They actually said it was due to lack of interest, not the hill not being open.

This was part of a gift for my g/f, and not only was she really looking forward to it, but she also arranged her weekend plans around this.

Anybody have any other suggestions? Sunshine is just too far to go for 2 days of lessons; plus the plan was once she had the basics of skiing I was going to take her there for a full weekend.

Sunshine is only just over an hour drive from Calgary, it's really not that bad. Nakiska is right there as well, I don't know if you will find anything closer.

Nakiska is probably your next best bet.

Well, the Sunshine exit is about 1 hour from city limits, but I know from my house its a solid 2 hours. So that makes it over 4 hours of driving for a 60-90 minute lesson; plus a park pass. That's why I wanted to avoid it.

I forgot about Nakiska. Wasn't my favourite mountain for skiing, but for lessons it would probably be just fine. And it's just that much closer to town.

Any other suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Pretty sure Nakiska isn't open yet. http://skinakiska.com/index.aspx

The next closest is Norquay, but you're still paying for the park pass http://www.banffnorquay.com/

Not much else around if you're not into Sunshine or Louise just yet...

I'd go with Lake Louise over Sunshine, even though it is even further. Because they make snow, the few runs they have open are bound to be better covered this early in the season.

Dont look at it as driving 2.5 hours for a 90 minute lesson. Look at it as driving all that way for a 90 minute lesson AND the rest of the skiing day. You could even get a private instructor at Lake Louise or Sunshine; I think you can book them the whole day, but I am not sure.

I'm guessing you read the thread title and not the OP.....
