In case of an emergency water landing, the person in the two seats next to you may be used as a floatation device.

I thought this was going to be about tall people, not obese people.
Obese people is not all that surprising...you can debate whether it's actually a disability or not but it's not really all that surprising. Tall people on the other hand would have called for some popcorn cause I've never heard of anybody saying that being tall is a disability.

Or double the baggage allowed?
And what about the washrooms? They're tighter than the seats....will the airlines have to knock out a row of seats and have an double wide washroom?

I'm 6'2" and when I'm on a plane, my knees are usually touching the seat in front of me. I wonder what it's like for really tall people.
If wide people get special treatment, why not tall people? Gimme!

It's 2008. None of this surprises me. Nor should it surprise any of you.

I'm not so sure about that. Maybe for the morbidly obese, but I don't think it's true for people who are chubby or skinny. Somehow I managed to get genes that keep me at an average weight for my height. I can eat anything I want (or sometimes nothing at all) and I'm always 200lbs. The same is not true for some people I know.

200lbs is not obese....unless you are 5'2".......while it can be argued 200lbs (i live in that area code as well) is large in comparision to the world population, it is by no means obese.
Obesity is different.

The woman who won the court case actually has a genetic defect that over stimulates her production of white fat cells.
That said, any sedentary jerk who thinks because they cannot be bothered to excercise the recommended minimum of 30 minutes a day and eat 3 meals plus snacks totalling no more than 2000 calories a day, avoid trans fats and for god stakes stop going to McDonald's, they deserve special status and treatment should be put in a fat-burning gulag until they can fit in an airline seat the minute they wish to sue an airline.
Holy run-on-sentence Batman!

I wonder then did she just throw her hands in the air and say such is life, or does she monitor her intake, etc.......

I'm 6'5" and leggy. My legs barely fit in a regular WestJet seat, and I regularly get into fist fights when the person in front of me tries to recline their seat. I used to let one of my knees poke into the aisle to be more comfortable, but stopped that habit after having my kneecap taken off by a stewardess running down the aisle pushing a beverage cart.

^ I'm 6'7" and it's the same story for me. I actually prefer window now, becaue the only way I can sleep is by leaning on the wall.
I've said since the whole free second seat issue was raised long ago that if it happened I wanted free business class or a second seat of my own on principle. Luckily for the airlines I'm too lazy for a law suit.
