Half serious question here.
Suppose notice for a job that would be a promotion at work. Everyone
at work, even those that don't know you have applied, say you should
apply and itwould be automatic for you to get the position. (About a dozen
people said this, including 4 or 5 others who would be your lateral peers)
Posting goes up, you apply. The position posting closes.
You have a brief chat initiated by yourself.
Bad vibes coming out, with very very loaded questions asked. So loaded
that another manager, and confidant, at the same company said, "He can't
ask that! There's no right answer!"
So, then a couple of weeks later, you go to the hiring manager, and
ask for a follow up. He's non-comittal, and you have to push to even
get him to agree to look over his calendar, and perhaps-maybe-kinda-
hopefully schedule something.
Thinking something is off, you go back to your desk and find out that
the job posting is open again.
What does that say to you?
Can anyone come up with anything other than the obvious?

PS. I'm not angry that I'm out of the running, that's business for you.
I'm mad because they didn't have the guts to come to me and face-to-face
tell me I'm out, here's why. Instead I have to find out via the job posting.
