The 2-6 outcome should never bely the fact that Hawks and Hurricanes played a pretty close game with 35-34 shots for Carolina. However, terrible goaltending from Brent Johnson led to this weak result.

In fact, Hawks were outshooting Carolina 26-15 after two, still trainling 2-3 at that point.

Hawks suddenly managed to stay out of the box, as Hurricanes had only 3 powerplays on the night and scored 0 on them (Hawks PK is still their only pride).

Tony Hrkac was one of 4 Hawks, who were not on the negative side of +/- and he logged the most IT among them.

Jiri Hudler posted 2 assists, as he has 5 points in last 2 games. Jon Klemm with other 2 assists, Ovechkin and Richardson with goals.

Kovalev had 0 points, yet registering led all skaters in hits again and had 3 shots. Cassels was maily invisible.

"Well, Hawks were playing basically the same - great offense (yup, I call 34 shots on Hurricanes great offense, Aebischer is another story) and terrible defense. This time we were just badly outgoaltended, like usually this season. However, next 4-6 weeks Hawks have very soft schedule and if our offense would keep generating shots, we may get some points down the road."

Flames win 6th in a row

Flames 5 Wings 3

In the wake of being named GM of the week, Axmann's Flames go 6 in a row.

A good game for the Flames although being outshot, they still manage to preserve the win.

Jarome Iginla has extended his point scoring streak to 14 games, his shot count at 141 and is a +/- at 28. Jarome also had 3rd star in this game.

Flames now in 5th place overall are starting to bear down on the top 4 seeds and are only 4 pts out of fourth overall.

Oddest thing to happen in the game was Khabilbulin skating to the bench during a break in the action of the third period. At that time, Habby profusingly sweating told Arturs Irbe, "ya best get ready, son..I'm running out of steam here".

Habby will be given a rest over the next few games to let him recoup.

Newly acquired D Chris Chelios kept up his 3.3 PIM per game average by taking 16 minutes in penalties. The only thing that kept him out of Sutters doghouse in his first game, is that between himself and Stevens only a single goal was allowed during the six Wings PP advantages.

Flames fans were also cheering loudly as it was announced during the second period that fan favourite Krzysztof Oliwa had been reacquired by the Flames.
Chants of "Oliwa, Oliwa, Oliwa, " could be heard clearly throughout the Saddledome.

Next game up is the Wings again on Monday night.

Yo, I didn't notice it at the start.

Sean Bergenheim.

-2 after 2 minutes of ice time. What it would be if he had 10 minutes???... Given his -3 after 7 minutes of ice time in game with Bruins, you can nominate rookie of previous week for Sandy McCarthy award. -5 after 9 minutes.... yeah, that's impressive. Good thing is that Hrkac will let Hawks sit him.

GOALTENDING CONTROVERSY IN FULL FLIGHT
Caron runs record to 6-1 as an Oiler

When nutcase GM Sylvanfan first took over the Edmonton Oilers his first move was to upgrade the backup goaltender. The first player he brought in to fill that role was Jani Hurme from the Hawks. Although Hurme played well as an Oiler posting a 3-0 record and 2.33GAA and a shutout, he was moved out to Columbus to bring in Sebastian Caron. Caron got off to an inauspicious start with the Oilers losing his first game 4-3 to the Florida Panthers in a game where he could not stop Dmitri Afanisenkov. But The young goaltender from Quebec has rebounded nicely winning his last six games now, and thanks to him the Oilers actually won games this week.

Today Caron turned in another solid performance turning aside 26 Coyote shots and helping the Oilers kill all 9 Coyote powerplays in a 3-2 win today. Recently aquired Michael Handzus and Dimitri Kalinin combined on the game winning goal when the latter fired home a shot from the point on the powerplay in the third to give the Oilers the win. Marcus Nilson and Radek Dvorak also scored for the Oilers who snapped a disgusting two game losing streak. Handzus was named second star of the game and posted 2 assists for his first two points as an Oilers. The other Oiler newcomer Brendan Shanahan looks like a ghost these days, and no doubt Sylvanfan should hear some cat calls from the critics on that deal (yeah, it's brutal I know, I'm shamed). Still suffering from the injury bug the Oilers were without top centre Vincent Lecavalier, and only allowed Kristian Huselius spot duty for two minutes. Bobby Holik is still slow to recover from a chest injury and is also being monitored closely. The Oilers will take a couple days off now before heading to Nashville to play the Preds who trail the Oilers by one point for top spot in the Howe conference.

Twin City Times

One Point at a Time

Another Game Another Tie for the Wild

If the Wild can somehow emerge from there scoring woes, they will look back at this time and be relieved that they still managed to pick up points in spite of virtually no offense production.

Despite being dissapointed in giving up a late goal to lose the 2 points, the Wild will take the single point and hope that there offense gets on track next game.

Moreover, if the Wild wish to focus on the positives the play of their 2nd line (responsible for both goals) is somewhat encouraging. This coupled with continued strong goaltending from Thibault and Snow means the Wild should not hit the panic button...yet.

The Wild play next Tuesday against the suddenly hot Stars. One wonders if Kevin "Wanks" Weekes will be able to dupliicate his heroics of last game.

Game Notes
- Rob Niedermayer was kicked out of the game early in the first for a "hooking" penalty on Kyle Mclaren. A strange call
- Vitali Yachmenev made his Wild debut and was a -1.
- David Legwand and Yannik Tremblay both had 2 point evenings
- Brian Rafalsk iwas in a ornary mood dishing out a game high 7 hits.

An ugly incident preceded the Capitals--Stars game as JohnnyFlame was assaulted before the game. It was during a brief stop to visit with the Caps Fan Club who had journeyed to Dallas for the game. As Johnny was attempting to put a good spin on the recent housecleaning his voice was drowned out by hecklers. Then Johnny was hit by an object thrown from the crowd. A small riot broke out and thankfully Dallas security managed to get JohnnyFlame out of the crowd though not without some further injuries.

JohnnyFlame was taken to Dallas Methodist Hospital where he was treated for a mild concussion and required some 15 stitches to close a couple of wounds which police speculated could have come from a sharp object.

JohnnyFlame said afterwards "I may have underestimated fan reaction and as a result it's clear a couple of things need to take place. One I will be keeping a low profile for the next couple of games and we will have to start a major marketing campaign to combat what is obviously a very upset fan base."

Various fans were ejected during the game as the boo's from the Caps fan contingent got louder and louder as the game progressed and the new look Caps floundered eventually dropping their third contest in a row. Fighting broke out in the stands and some obviously drunk and unruly Capitals fans were led from the arena by Dallas police. Caps players afterwards were in shock. "Many of the guys are new and that's difficult enough to deal with but this is just not right", said team spokesman Dave Scatchard.

The Atlanta Thrashers security chief was to make a decision sometime before the game on whether the some 500 Capitals fans on this "Follow your Caps" junket would be allowed to attend the game in Atlanta.

THE GABORIK SHOW

It didn’t take long for the young sniper to make an impact with his new club, as he single headedly dismantled the Hawks Saturday night. After setting up Owen Nolan , Kenny Jonsson and Brian Rolston in the first two periods, Marian notched his 1st and 2nd goal as a Hurricane sending the small faithful that made it out to Chicago into a frenzy as Gaborik celebrated his 5 point night. “Not since the days since Lanny McDonald laced up the skates that I seen one player dominate a game so much” proudly remarked ‘Canes GM Hanna.
After the game Marian took little time to get focus on the Hurricanes next game against his former team on Monday. “Johnny was a great GM to play for, I’ll may be a ‘Cane now but it still feels like he’s upstairs watching over me.” spoke Gaborik, be fore leaving the dressing room he also added “I’m sure him and Hanna will be watching from the luxury boxes as usual.”
As true to word it looks like Hurricanes GM seems to be heading to Washington with the team, when asked if he’ll be watching the game in Johnny luxury box “Uhm, well… by the sounds of what I’m hearing I think I may be asking Johnny to come watch the game in our box, or maybe well just watch this game from a nearby bar”

FREDDY B.....YOU SUCK!

Less than 24 hours after posting up the big goose egg, Brathwaite stinks the joint out. Booooo! was herd all night in Detroit as he again let his team down in a game that they deserved to win. With Roman still sucking wind there is no clear time frame as to when the goaltending nightmare will end. On the plus side Jeff Friesen ripped 10 shots at old man Bullin and knocking two of them by him. Finally getting a day off Detroit will now hold a 2 hour power skating practise in the mourning before the players hit the weights.

Wow, Curtis Sanford has the game of his life. Bruins went 0 for 10 on the PP. I pretty unreal stat for one of the better PP teams in the League. Looks like the new additions need to find some chemistry. The only need addition to score was the one and only Spachek!
