A new batter has stepped up to the plate for Calgary's ownerless Northern League baseball team. Allan Howell, president of Miami-based Global Sports Holdings Inc., is set to meet with Northern League officials Tuesday in Chicago to discuss purchasing the club.

"We've met with the city and there are some issues relating to the lease (of Foothills Stadium), which was given to the previous ownership group. We have to be sure in our minds that a lease is something that can be attained. As long as that's the case, we're prepared to move forward and make a formal application to the Northern League," said Howell, whose company also owns the American Basketball Association's Calgary Drillers.
The article also mentions that there are several interested people looking at our NorL team. Hopefully whoever ends up with it does so with enough time to properly build and market this team so it does a little better at the gate than the Drillers have thus far...
