You really think less people are wearing poppies these days? I don't notice it to be honest and think it's more or less the same as always. Would be interested to see some sort of survey if there is one out there about this...
Got mine over the weekend from a veteran at the mall. Shook his hand and talked to him for a few minutes, asking him when he served.

Haven't noticed a trend of more or less.
Always wear one.

Count me in the camp (like Kramer with the aids ribbon on Seinfeld) who does not purposely wear or not wear a poppy. I pick one up if I've got some change which I already did, but haven't been wearing it. I find I end up getting stabbed a lot and people seem to think it offensive if I put it in an unconventional place like my hat. Kudos to veterans though.

I donate usually $20 and take a few so I can put them on different jackets I wear. Else I forget to make the switch

I used to wear mine on the right side of my jacket, and got some dirty looks and was finally told that I should be wearing it on the left side. I don't see why that should matter, shouldn't the point be that at least I'm wearing a poppy?

Well, it's just meant to go above your heart. Symbolic and such, y'know?

Yeah, I buy one (generously) every year. Put it on my jacket and it invariably falls off via the seatbelt when I'm driving, or is otherwise lost. But I do buy one even if I'm not wearing it.
If it was a button or something, I would wear it more prominently. As it is, it's a temporary decoration. Still, it's the thought that counts, right?

If you put it on and bend the end a bit it stays in better

I now understand that it's supposed to go over your heart, but at the end of the day, how is wearing one on the right side disrespectful? As Reggie said, isn't it the thought that counts? The fact that I was wearing one period should show that I support the veterans and am thanking them for their sacrifices. I meant no disrespect by wearing it on my right side.

I honestly don't care where you wear it as long as you wear it.

Yeah, I know. It's a minor quibble, but it's still a flimsy bit of business. I can understand keeping costs down (poppies used to have more layers of felt inserts years ago -- a green bit and a yellow bit as well as the black bit), but a durable pin might encourage folks to wear 'em longer.

I've had family members die in almost every major conflict for England. Wearing a poppy is of utmost importance to me. Without veterans, well, who can really tell, but we live the lives we do because of them.

I haven't got one yet cause I've been too busy with school stuffs, but I'll be buying one either tomorrow or on Thursday.
I dunno if I'd say less people are wearing them...then again, I haven't really noticed either way.

It's not disrespectful and anyone giving you that attitude needs to pull the stick out of their butt.
It's proper to wear it above your heart, but even if it's on a bag somewhere it shows that you have thought about the veterans sacrifice.
Whether it's for the sacrifices made in WW1-2 or for Canada's peacekeeping efforts, wear a poppy and show our vets that they are recognized and honoured.

I've actually always been impressed with the almost universal support in Canada for Remembrance Day and displaying the poppy.
Even in junior high, nobody joked, people wore poppies, it was taken seriously.
I don't think this has changed, but I think we can probably expect it to in another 20 years when there are no veterans of WWII around anymore, and young people haven't grown up knowing a family member who fought in a war.

Did I hear the other day that there is only 1 Canadian WWI vet left and he never saw any combat?

Thanks for that...I thought it was crazy for anyone to think I was being disrespectful, good to know there are people here who agree and that I'm not alone on that one!

I agree...when kids are taught about WWII in school and don't get to hear stories first hand anymore, it's going to lose a lot of its impact, that's when I'm sure we'll see a drop in people who wear poppies. Sad to think about.
