Default SNL - Is it just me...???

Or is it getting somewhat funny again?

http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Li...k-show/727501/

I was in tears thanks to this skit. Weekend Update is a can't miss... and the Mark Wahlberg talks to Animals was pretty good as well. Kirsten Wiig is easily the funniest person on the show, aside from some of the stuff Andy Sanberg pulls out his butt... but I think he's being held back for some reason (possibly "Hot Rod").

Don't get me wrong, the Marry Poppins, and the Katie Perry skits were pretty lame, but I think SNL is back on an upswing, Tina Fey/Sarah Palin, or not.

Thoughts?

The election is prime beef material. The McCain-Obama debate skit was hilarious.

Not just you! The last 3 seasons it's become become increasingly better. Andy Samberg and Will Forte are hilarious, especially Andy's digital shorts. The one this past week was great.

That skit you youtubed up there was also hysterical, lol. I'm listening to it as I type.

When they first started a Lawrence Welk skit I thought they were crazy. I mean, who is watching SNL who was even alive when Lawrence Welk was on? But it was hilarious. I fell asleep before seeing the rest. I may go ahead and put it back on my Tivo. The VP debate opening was also great stuff. I laughed a lot.

Saturday night live is always funny when you first start watching it and find fart jokes funny. Then you go through the phase when you are too cool for fart jokes and Saturday Night Live just isn't as funny as it used to be. It doesn't matter what era it is when you reach this stage the previous age of SNL actors that you started with was better and you only remember the "dick in a box" skits but not the merry poppins skit.

Then you get a little older and you decide you can be both mature and think fart jokes are funny and SNL starts being funny again.

If only it could be election time all the time at SNL...

It seems to be the only time when they shine.

I had it on my PVR and watched it this afternoon. First time I've laughed that hard at SNL in years.

The talent is there, the shows format has gone stale

mix of both.

Kristen Wig is one of the best things to happen to SNL in awhile. The characters she brings (while similar) are something new and something SNL needed.
So glad its getting funny again.

I thought the Tina Fey/Jimmy Fallon Weekend Update stuff was the best they had going for a long time. After Tina left to focus on 30 Rock I drifted away a bit, but the new material with her lampooning Sarah "I can see Russia from my house!" Palin is priceless.

Jimmy Fallon was terrible. Tina Fey was just a writer at the point when Fallon started Weekend Update and since he has the charisma of a cardboard box they brought in Fey to help him out.

I can't stand Andy Sandberg, i think he's one of the unfunniest people I've ever seen on tv. I have no idea why he get's so much play, i just don't get it.

I'm glad to see Bobby Moynihan on the show....I've seen this guy at the Upright Citizens Brigade, he was absolutely hillarious (UCL is almost always more funny than SNL anyway). SNL should turn him into a star.

The Mary Poppins skit had much potential but it was wasted.

I've actually really liked it the last few seasons. During that time my friends all seemed to bash it because it was fashionable to do so. They wouldn't really watch it, but they seemed to enjoy talking about how much it sucked.

Perhaps it's just my humour style, but I find Samberg and Forte to be extremely hilarious. You can tell Lorne Micheals treats them a little like like he treated Ferrell. Their humour is a little odd and doesn't hit with everybody, but he'll have no problem throwing in 2 or 3 really off the wall skits.

Wiig is talent filled imo. I've enjoyed her more and more the last few years as well.

I also really enjoyed this weekend's SNL - Anne Hathaway was actually really good, and better than some of the cast members at not looking like she was reading during the skits (those are always the best episodes for me - the ones where the host goes against expectations and is really funny; Peyton Manning also comes to mind). I totally loved Will Forte's bit on Update. I think Andy Samburg is great, those digital shorts are always gold (my fave so far this season has been the Space Olympics). And yeah, Kristen Wiig... so funny.

Show is definitely in a good place right now with all the talent they have. A lot of the cast are also having movie careers while they're still on the roster - usually SNL cast members bolt the show for the big screen. Nice to see the balance. SNL can be hit or miss for me, though - I enjoyed the Hathaway show all the way through but was thoroughly disappointed last week, for example, with Anna Faris, who is hilarious but whose skill was IMO totally wasted when she hosted.

My friend sent me the link to the Mark Wahlberg skit. We have been making fun of this guy since he was in that cheesy teen movie, Fear. Awesome skit.

I think they have the talent now, but some of the skits still lack good writing. If they figured out how to better use their talent, the show could be fantastic all season, instead of just one or two skits, here and there.

I like Kristin Wiig, as well, I loved when she used to do the skit where she played one of those totally unaware, high maintenance type chicks, where she thought everyone looked like a rabbit. It was a one trick pony, but I always loved those skits. I also like Jason Sudeikis and Bill Hader. Hader seems to be getting a lot of small roles in movies lately, Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Pineapple Express.
