Friends and letting them borrow your stuff
Ok i just got back from vegas. While i was away i let a buddy of mine use my xbox 360 and nhl 09 because his wife wont let him buy one.... anyway i asked if i could pick it up tonight when i got back home .... he said he would be out, and i told him that we had said if i let him borrow it that i would be able to pick it up when i got home. He told me to text when i got home....I then asked well what about tomorrow and he told me well i have a tee time at 7:30 am and stuff going on all day m i have texted him twice tonight and called and no response........ Im so pissed , this is why i dont like loaning my stuff. Im too nice to say No but really hate loaning my stuff.... ANy ideas on how to go about this situation without offending my friend but also getting back my xbox

That sucks your friend is acting this way and it sucks that his wife wont let him get one! When did you get back?
I would tell him you want your things back by the end of the day tomorrow and that you are willing to pick it up or have him drop if off.
Tell him its the weekend and you really were looking forward to playing the game...if he makes up lame excuses tell him there that must be some point in the day where you could even come pick it up yourself (ie after his game of golf) or something like that....sucks you have to revolve your schedule around him but he doesnt seem to be in any hurry to return your things. If that doesnt work, just show up at his house on Sunday and ask for it back.

i guess it wasn't you online earlier when i was on. this was about an hour ago.
for him to give you the run around is bad enough. you shouldn't have to be nice anymore. just tell him to have it ready for you before he goes for golf, and make sure someone is there for you to come by and pick it up.
oh, and tell him to man up and buy his own console.

It's friday night, past midnight on Halloween no less.
I am a mid-forties married, nearly gramma and I am sitting at home... what is your excuse?
If you were my son, I would say what is the the big deal if it takes days or weeks to get your lil' gaming box back; have you nothing else to do in the meantime???
Sure, I can understand it is irritating, but if he is a friend you should cut him some slack.

You just got back from Vegas of all places and because you can't get your xbox back right away tonight you are complaining on CP about it?
I think you are overreacting quite a bit here. Am I reading it right that you just got back yesterday or today? Your friend might actually have plans that he can't back out of... if it's really only a matter of hours, I find it unreasonable that you havne't given him much of a chance or are willing to work with his free time as well. Your friend is probably ignoring your texts and calls now because he's busy or annoyed.

Great. Makes it even stranger that you are judging how someone chooses to spend their free time.

As for the matter at hand - I'd say you probably shouldn't lend stuff in the future. It's your stuff and if bugs you to loan it out - simply decline. Most friends will understand. There may an argument he's being a touch inconsiderate but I think the bigger issue is that you just don't like doing it which is fine. Don't put yourself in the same situation going forward. Nothing wrong with saying no to a friend.

Heck, i'd just show up at his place when he's out golfing. Ring the door bell and tell the wife you came to pick up your game.

Oh come on, Nicker has posted several times in the past, whining about his personal issues.
Given I am one of the older posters on this forum, I am simply offering some motherly advice. I expect he will take it just like my kids and tell me to.... "mind my own business" ....

Tell me to tell his wife to know her role, and buy him a X-Box 360.

That's what I had in mind. I am overly dirty or does the synopsis of a guy going by his buddy's house to pick up his Xbox, which he loaned him before going to Vegas but annoyingly so has not gotten it back yet, only to find that his buddy's out golfing and won't be home for hours, with his strict wife being the only one home, sound like one heck of an average porn flick?
