Default Songs for my daughter

I figured there must be a bunch of dads in here. I have a new baby daughter and I wanted to make a cd/ipod playlist for her and I to listen to together and was wondering if there were any suggestions. I’m partial to RnB so I’d prefer something in that genre but I won’t limit it to that.

I’m thinking of songs specifically about babies/children (eg: “Isn’t she lovely” by Stevie Wonder; “My baby girl, my baby boy” by Mint Condition/Anthony Hamilton”) or maybe even some re-done lullabies (eg: “You are my sunshine” by Steph Jones)

Any suggestions out there for good songs that I can get?

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but 'Quiet Time' by Raffi is one of my fav's.

We also liked the 'Rockabye Baby!' series featuring modern artists tunes done like lullabies... Nirvana, Coldplay, Metallica and there's a few others.

Edit: Theres a whole lot more in that series than I remembered... check them out http://www.rockabyebabymusic.com/web...p?pgs=products

Children's Ipod hey?

Be sure to include music you yourself might not normally listen to. Some kids take to things like Be-Bop or Fusion really early.

Some of these are hilarious! I love this kind of stuff actually. Its great to see some of these songs as lullabies, and this would be a great box-set!

My daughter has listened to Raffi's Baby Beluga CD since pretty much the first day she was born. It is now her bathtime CD.

Barenaked ladies has a kids CD called Snacktime out that my wife has added to her outtings in the Van.

After re-reading your post I think I misunderstood. I have a similar playlist to what you are refering to.
It includes:

Life of a Salesman by Yellowcard
You Can Let Go by Crystal Shawanda
Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison
Tonight is the Night I Fell Asleep at the Wheel / Hidden Sun by Barenaked Ladies

and several other songs that are of the Raffi type.

Might not help you now, but since my daughter was about 18 months she is all about Johnny Cash. Greatest hits, she loves it all form Cry, Cry, Cry right up to his I won't Back Down cover.

Works very well for me too.

My 7-week old daughter seems to like music by Stars, and she falls asleep to music by Great Lake Swimmers. Of course, that could be some wishful thinking on daddy's part.

Mine were put in the jolly jumper and bounced about to the Pogues.

Looked as if they were enjoying themselves.

If you like R&B, how about Stevie Wonder's "You are the Sunshine of my Life"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YefKgWdmFk

For all around sentimentality, give this a listen...... "Daddy's Little Girl"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0g132Ya__s

How about Paul Simon's "Father and Daughter"

Default Rockabye

We also have a new baby daughter and she seems to like the Rockabye Baby Music Series. It is pretty cool if you haven't listened to it before and it changes music like the Smashing Pumpkins into a lullabye.

My daughter (2 years old) likes the Barenaked ladies CD "Snacktime" and it's not completely annoying to listen to as an adult.

But most importantly my little girl requested some Metallica the other day in the car. I was so proud I almost had to pull over and wipe away tears.

Lullaby CDs based on the music of some of the big rock bands (think Metallica elevator music). In addition to a Metallica lullaby album there are Tool, U2, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Coldplay, The Cure, Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Green Day, Radiohead, NIN, The Eagles and No Doubt albums. Available at Amazon.

edit: guess I shouldn't have taken so long to get back to the computer and hit submit...beaten to it.
