Any Saw Geeks out there??
THREAD WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS
Anyone see Saw V over the weekend?? I thought it was alright, follows the same formula as the rest of them except for the HUGE TWIST at the end. There is a twist, but it the movie doesn't beat you over the head with it.
I'm a huge fan of the series, always go opening day, always buy the DVD on the first day. Always been a fan.
Haters.... I will be the first to admit that these movies are garbage, and are all the same and haven't come close to being better than the first. But to me, it's entertaining as hell and the ongoing story is pretty damn intriguing. The over the top torture and gore is more funny than anything else. You can't take any of this seriously so when I see a guy rip hooks out of his body, I wince and laugh at the same time. So please, don't reply in this thread just to bash the movies.
People who saw it....what did you think of the twist?? What did ya think of the movie overall?? Are you still intrigued by the series?? Will you see the next one??

It was kinda funny...I brought a friend along telling her that just cause she hadn't seen all of them it wouldn't really matter...I didn't realize that Saw V would be bringing the whole storyline together.
I thought it was ok but got away from the whole "lets play a game" type movie. I guess you can only do that so many times but it just didn't feel like a genuine, gory Saw movie to me...

I have all the other 4 on DVD... haven't brought myself to watch SAW IV yet, due to SAW III being more than what I was expecting in the gross department. But the twists at the end are legendary. Amazing how they can get it right on a consistant basis, and M. Night Shamalamadingdong can't duplicate Sixth Sense.
SAW was nothing short of brilliant, while SAW II was forgetable.
I have yet to catch any of the SAW series in the theater, and while I'm a fan, I don't know that I would want to be a captive audience either. Love to watch them at home... where I have a safe word with my wife... if I start screaming it... she comes in and shuts off the TV...

I think with the saw series, you have to see the previous ones to not be completely lost. There was so many flashbacks and other scenes that revert back to its predecessors. I mean, they explained the fat guy in the barb wire cage scene in this one.

Oh and I totally agree. It just felt like this one was more wrapping everything up in the past 4 movies than moving on with a storyline. It just felt like with the other ones that the main vein in the movies was jigsaw's games and such and this one it didn't have that feel. I could be totally off though...that's just how I felt.

No, there's probably some truth to that. The main "game" with the 5 people in the wharehouse seemed to be the secondary storyline with the emergence of Hoffman being the primary. Having said that, you could probably make that the case for the all the sequels. The first one was the only one where the game was the central focus.

I saw Darryl Janz on the news last night, and he reported on the box office draws of the weekend, and he said "Saw Vee" not "Saw Five". I thought it was funny.

speaking of box office, Saw made 30 mil this past weekend. With a budget of 10, im sure Koules and Co. are pretty damn happy. I think they finish the series with 6 next year.

Man, that guy sucks. Somehow I keep watching his movies on airplanes, and I can't believe how bad they are. His latest one was about plants killing people with toxic gas. That has to be one of the worst premises for a movie ever.

I thought The sixth sense, unbreakable and signs were all good movies. He's obviously still living off their reputation. I can see where he was trying to go with the happening and I appreciated the underlying message (don't mess with mother nature, take care of the environment) but he obviously failed to pull it off.
Anyway getting to Saw. If you ask me I say enough already. I loved the first one. The second one pissed me off because I predicted Amanda being jigsaws accomplice the moment I saw Shawnee Smith had top billing in the sequel. I thought part three redeemed the sequel somewhat and tied the series together. But what the hell do parts 4 and 5 have to do with anything? It's like they're really grasping at straws to tie it all together and milk some more cash from peoples pockets. I won't be seeing part 6. The best part of going to this movie was the trailer for Friday the 13th before the movie started.

Apparently those guys are absolutely loaded from the Saw movies given how cheap they make them and how well they do at the box-office.
Wasn't there a former hockey player who got in with those guys and now has lots of money as a result?

I think the first movie was brilliant, and I was entertained by the sequels as well. But I can see how they may look like more of the same to people who were not huge fans of the original move.
Haven't seen Saw 5 yet, but I will watch it, and I am sure I will watch Saw 6 as well. I say keep 'em coming. The story is great, twists too and Shawnee Smith was awesome since Becker.

Len Barry. They are now the owners of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
EDIT: Not sure if the OP was trying to be sarcastic

No, it's Oren Koules who once tried a hockey career and who now owns the Lightninig. He invested a million bucks into Saw one and has since become ridiculously loaded. The franchise has brought in over a billion dollars.

Am I the only person who is stunned that this movie franchise is still making movies?
All "scary" movies in the past 7 years have been crap IMO. Too over the top for my likings, they all attempt to push the envelope and they just get worse and worse.
However, I did enjoy the Texas Chainsaw Massacre re-make in 2003, Dawn of the Dead re-make, 28 days later and Ringu (the Ring).

I saw Saw 1, 2, and 3, and decided after 3 that I needed a break from the hilarity. That scene in Saw 3 where the dude is clamped in to that vise-like device that cranks his body parts 720 degrees - I mean, look, in any sort of reality that would be pretty messed up but I couldn't help but laugh my ass off at it in the movie. Saw 3 was SO over the top - I can only imagine the subsequent sequels amp it up more and more.
But don't get me wrong - I love that these kinds of movies still get made. 5 Saw movies now? That's great, seriously... I thought the endless-sequel thing was sort of over, they got Freddy Krueger and Jason together in a movie and it was like the film industry acknowledged there is only so much you can do with the same bad guy, even if there's 2 of them in one flick. Which is tragic, really. Trashy cinema definitely has its place. You can crank these things out cheap and they're entertaining enough to keep people coming back, more power to you, I say.
