Default 1st Official Calgary Snow Thread!

Well it's approximately 4:20am on Oct 14th in the SW part of the city, and theres a freakin blizzard outside my window! It started off as a hard rain but quickly turned to fast blowing snow. Doesn't appear to be sticking to the ground yet though, so those of you who have to drive to work in a few hours shouldn't have too much to grumble about.

As for me, I'm off to watch more Office episodes for I have the day off tomorrow and tickets to the game!

Yeah I woke up and wanted to cry since I have to take the train to work (and walk from Banff Trail to the Foothills).

Screw this weather. I'm gonna freeze to death.

Is it really "official" if there wasn't any snow on the ground by the time most people were waking up? Like at 6:00 am.

I got up and read this thread. I explained to my wife that I needed to leave 15 mins early to account for snow and stuff. Then I walk out the door and see rain. Maybe I should trust CP less for stuff I could just verify by looking out the window.

Maybe you should shut your mouth. IF CP says there's snow, then there's snow. If CP tells you to leave early, you better leave early, dammit. Don't make us get disutopian on your ass. Now go to the Wallstreet meltdown thread and buy some of every stock mentioned.

Well, here we go ........ Gonna be a decent one to start us off.

Quote:
A powerful fall storm is set to slam Central and Eastern Canada tonight into Wednesday with significant impact likely in sections of Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes. The low pressure centre is now deepening rapidly as it moves through New England on its way to Southern Quebec. This storm has many dangerous elements including heavy snow, damaging wind, and lake-effect snowsqualls.
Eastern Ontario and Southern Quebec: Heavy Snow and Strong Winds
The triangle from Ottawa to Brockville to Montreal will see the highest impact from heavy snow tonight. Amounts greater than 15 cm are possible with localized areas approaching 30 cm north of this region in the Laurentians. The forecast for Montreal is extremely difficult as the rain/snow line will be right through the city this evening. If more of the precipitation falls as heavy wet snow vs rain, there may be power outages as the few remaining trees with leaves snap under the weight of wet snow. The moisture content of the snow will not be as high farther west in Ottawa, but problems are likely as strong winds coupled with the snow create extremely hazardous conditions on roads in this region such as the 416, 417 and 401.
While snowfall will ease Wednesday morning, strong winds will create near whiteout conditions on area roadways. It's hard to imagine right now, but this is a significant snow storm and travelling tonight through tomorrow morning in this region will be dangerous and is not recommended. Conditions will improve later Wednesday as the low pulls away into Northern Quebec.
