Hard core baby!!
Wow. The blood alcohol level this guy had was just astounding. He should be dead, but was coherent and talking with police after his accident. I've been pretty drunk before, but i don't think I could hold a candle to this guy.

BAC by breathalizer is hardly 100%.
quite honestly if someone got a little scientific there's probably certain things you could have in your mouth to fool the machine. i've heard for example that breathmints _raise_ your indicated BAC...
in countries where they shoot people on the spot for DUI's they use syringes.

They did blood tests, 5 of them, and it came back .914 so he was really that loaded. Wow.

There was an Urban Myths show on TLC I believe that 'proved' that you couldn't beat a breathalizer. They tried mints, various liquids, holding pennies in their mouths, and even denture cream
Bottom line was that you can't use little gimmics to get out of blowing red, supposedly.

Why would you want to "beat" a breathalizer? Just don't drive home drunk! (and anyone who does is a complete and utter moron)....

I agree. I can drink quite a bit, but fortunately, even after I'm pretty hammered, I still have enough sense to know not to drive home, or anywhere else for that matter.

BTW the show was myth busters, and it was on discovery.
Basically, the theory behind it is that if you take a swig of either alchohol or mouth wash, just before you get tested, it will register higher on the test.
So, it could be a way to beat the ticket saying that you had just taken 1 big drink of beer or what ever, and then blow into the breathalizer. You aren't drunk, but the test may show you are.

They were doing it to raise their blood-alcohol? I don't think so, the point of the show was to investigate myths that lowered your blood-alcohol. Why would you try to raise it quickly, and how would that get you out of a ticket? A cop pulls you over, so you take a swig of mouthwash so you can brag that you drank one beer? That would be a little strange.

Uh huh. Why would you ever want to shoot someone? And yet gun research continues... what a crazy world. Some things are done for the sake of interest and information... like surfing and posting on a message board.

I understand that.
The point I was trying to get accross is you probably will get charged witha DUI. But drinking just before you take the test, will skew the results. Therefore, in court, you can use the defence of "I just took a drink before I took the test" (obviously in court you would be a little more professional). They wont be able to determine if it was the drink that put you over (becuase of high concentration of alchohol) or that your blood-alchohol level is actually above the legal limit.
This of course, can be eliminated with a blood test. But we are talking about breathalizers here.

That's why cops always have you blow twice and if the results are skewed (as they are with stuff like mouthwash) they take you in to get a blood test. Besides any time you are going to get charged with DUI the first thing they do is take a blood test. Brethalyzers don't hold up in court very well as I understand it, but a blood test does.

wouldn't that mean you were drinking WHILE driving (and open alcohol in the car) then it wouldn't matter what your BAC is.

I always find it pretty incredible how little alcohol actually gets into your blood.
Hell, I'd assume right now my blood is 20% caffeine
