Alfredo Sauce left out
So I opened a jar of Alfredo Sauce and accidently left it out of the fridge for about 20 hours. Is it okay to eat still? It smells okay, but I'm not really sure what it should smell like.

Toss it.. Considering it's cream based and no longer sealed, not a good idea.

If in doubt toss it out.
Not worth the risk of getting sick.

Thanks for the quick response, my pasta just finished boiling. Oh well Ill use vodka sauce instead.
The worst part is my roommate did the same thing last week, and I made sure he heard about it. Difference is he thought you were supposed to leave it in the cupboard after it was open.

Really. I can't believe how often we get an "I left some food out for X hours, is it safe to eat?" thread popping up around here.
Maybe we need an all-purpose, "how long can food be left out before it should be thrown out" thread.

People, people - where is your scientific curiosity? Instead of "should I eat blah blah blah if it's left out", I want to see "I scraped the mold off of a mayo and salmon sandwich, scarfed it, AND LIVED TO TELL THE TALE!!!!"
Seriously, if you're not sure if you should eat something, EAT IT and then you'll know! *Then* you can come here and let everyone else know what happened, otherwise it's just guessing games.

If it has clumps in it, you'll have to use a fork.

The problem with the younger generation is that they have no courage. In my mother's day, if it hadn't started to go lumpy, you'd still drink it... if it went lumpy, time to bake a cake!

we're seriously turning into a bunch of wusses.
Do you see my dog complaining that the garbage is a week old as she rips it open when i'm not looking? Hells no. Animials in the wild come across a dead rotting corpse and devour it. Yet you wonder if it's "safe" after a mere 20 hours?
If it passes the smell test, you can eat the rest! /sarcasm

unless the lid was left off the jar for 20 hours, the preservatives would prevent any significant microbial growth; bring it to a boils for at least 5 minutes and you can be reasonably confident it is safe to eat

This is what you should do:
-Make some pasta
-Put alfredo sauce in it,
-Offer it to roommate as an act of kindness since he ruined his.
-If he gets sick, don't eat your share, if he doesn't then you're all good!
Or just quit being a fataing pu**y, drink a beer and eat some damn alfredo noodles!

for the record. I make a protein drink before work whenever I plan on going to the gym after. it sits in my car all day in a heated lot. then i go to the gym, usually end up drinking it at 6 - 7 pm, 10 - 12 hours after mixing. I've not gotten sick yet.
Sometimes if i don't make it to the gym I go home, put it back in the fridge and will drink the next time.
MMMmmm
