Is the US Bailout illegal under NAFTA?
As I've been following the action in the US and abroad I've begun to wonder if these bailouts are against free trade agreement rules, as they are interventionist and protectionist whereas I thought NAFTA and other agreements disallowed this. I read an article that talked about how the US bailout will help large US banks buy out smaller banks to the detriment of Canadian banks who could have been the ones snapping up these banks.
Anyone have any knowledge or thoughts on this?
