First Date Ideas
I've been out of the dating scene for a while so I'm throwing caution to the wind and thought I'd post this to get some thoughts.
I'm guessing this is a typical "first date" to determine if there will be a second. We're meeting for a drink around 9pm in Kensington. Should I have a plan for doing something else? It'll be late so other than heading to a club, I'm not sure what's on the radar.
What are some of the better places in Kensington? I've only been to the Yardhouse and FATS and neither really appealed to me.
Let's see how long it'll take before this thread gets derailed...

Rohypnol.
Or, failing that, is the Muse still open down there?

Higher Ground / Kensington Pub if she's quiet and you really want to talk.
Yardhouse / OJ's / Molly Malones if she's a more outgoing bar type.
FATS if she wants to cheer for the Flames.
Riverside Inn if she's a screamer. (sorry, couldn't resist)
Globefish / Broken Plate if you're looking for a non break the bank dinner.
Under no circumstances go to Julios Barrios.

I've only been to the Kensington pub once before, but found it hard to get a table. For a first date, you don't want to be wondering around the place in search of a table only to be stuck in the far corner away from everyone.
I can't vouch for many of the pubs down in kensington, because I don't make it down to that area too often, but I don't think you would go wrong with taking her to OJ's. Decent somewhat diverse crowd, decent food and drink selection. not too bad on the bank, also has a pool table which could help break the ice a bit.

It's a good way to find out what's going on around the city on any given day. If she's into music, I would recommend some where like HiFi. It's a good way to relax but most importantly, because of the sound levels being so high it's a good way to get close to someone and introduce contact early on.

Things like Laser tag, mini golf, bowling, roller skating, go-karting are always a good idea because when you're having fun it's very easy to open up and feel a connection with someone. I know they sound like things teens would do on a date, and they do, but grown ups like to have fun too right? So if she's up for something like this then Shanks North would be a good idea.
If you can, find out what you can about her to get an idea about what to do when drinks go well.
Good luck!

Best first date of my life:
Movie:
- somewhere where you only need to talk a little and see whether not it is awkward.
wasn't awkward so, pool and bowling:
- social place, a drink or two, lots of people and noise
was going well so invite back to my place to watch a movie:
- Top Gun, the best movie ever for getting laid, my go to plan the whole time I was single. Watched that, plowed her, watched Shrek, plowed her again, went to bed, she stayed, woke up, plowed her again.
We have now been together 6 years, married 3.5 years and have a 1.5 year old!

Funny I see this thred today - I just had a first date in Kensington last night myself. kept it very simple and low-key. Picked up a coffee at the Starbucks at 7:00 (Higher Ground is right next door - also a good choice), crossed the Bow and went for a walk along the river, around Prince's Island, back to a bench in Kensington to sit and chat some more. Nice and low key - leaves turning colour, sun setting on the downtown skyline, nice weather - made for a comfortable relaxing date. We're getting together again Wednesday night.

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably try the Kensington Pub first and keep it really low-key. A walk around the Bow sounds nice but not late at night. A walk around Kensington might be ok though.
We'll see...
