Default It worked in videogames, why not real life?

Driver thinks he can rebound off wall in real life and not lose significant speed.

"I planned on hitting the wall, but I didn't plan on the wall slowing me down that much," Edwards said. "In video games, you can just run into the wall and run it wide open. That's what I did, but it didn't quite work out the same as the video game."
I know realism has come far in home consumer consoles, but to actually employ tactics developed there? Next thing you know, NHL teams say they design their PP's around NHL 09.

Having watched the race it was the correct strategy for the last lap. He was 2 or 3 car lengths behind going into the final corner so there is no way he can catch the driver in front of him so he doesn't break going into the corner and slides up into the wall so he just scrapes the wall. This move has worked in the past to win races. His problem was he didn't hit the wall hard enough. Instead of bouncing of the wall and maintaining his speed he dragged along the wall loosing a lot of speed.

The move probably doesn't work nines times out of ten but when it does it is pretty impressive.
