Not really thought provoking. I would have preferred if he did something dealing with currents events and issues. Whatever joke of a presidency that Bush had it's inconsequential now. The sad thing is too that regardless of how much work he went through getting people to register to vote it did nothing. I like Michael Moore but this can't even be considered a documentary, especially to base it on something that even make a difference.

I don't know if it was actually quantified but I heard that Michael Moore actually hurt the Democrats in the last election.

This movie is more like "The Big One" - a Moore film for Moore fans (like myself - I have every episode of "The Awful Truth" and "TV Nation").

As for whether he hurt Kerry or not, I don't think so....

He does rev up BOTH bases and the barbs back and forth over who is lying and who is not leave most of America scratching their heads. But at worse, I think it was a wash.

But I think Jon Stewart has one thing that Moore does not... Moore presents things like he has all the answers. Jon is so self deprecating you think he has none of the answers and is the blind squirrel that came across an acorn when he finds something damning.

I was thinking this:

Not this:

Kinda disappointed to be honest with you. What is with everyone using initials in thread titles now a days.

It's still an important message though. I don't know why more people don't get out and vote. And we've got nothing to be proud of in Canada anymore either. We used to be about 20% ahead in turnout, now we're close to the same.

Back to the American election, I have an odd feeling of history repeating itself... But as the last eight years have shown, if it does happen, the voters will get what they deserve.

I personally think LESS people should vote. There are plenty of people that know more about the issues than I do, but I am following as best I can. I think I have a good grasp of the party platforms and what each stand for. But just talking to guys in the cafeteria or hanging out after work.... there are one hell of a lot of people that are voting that don't know an eco-tax from a hard cap (as an example). Democracy depends on appealing to the lowest common denominator so that Joe Six-pack will go to the polls and vote for whomever he's been manipulated into thinking will get him the most beer. I've seen some very interesting political debates with great points from all sides right here on CP. But what percentage of the populace are arming themselves with all the facts and ideas required to make an informed decision at the polls?

Throughout the movie (though I am only part way through) Moore seems to suggest that the Democrats would win IF ONLY THEY WOULD COME OUT AND VOTE. This would only be true if there were more left leaning "slackers" (people who can't be bothered to go to the polls once every couple years) than right leaning "slackers". He wasn't trying to "Get Out the Vote". He was trying to "Get Out the pro-Kerry Vote". Bad premise aside, I am enjoying the movie... some really good one liners. And an even better comeback on whether his films are propaganda.
