Fouled up Outlook
So there I was, happily minding my own business, trying to respond to an e-mail. I clicked "reply" and waited for almost 5 seconds for it to do what it's supposed to do, but it did not. Quickly my patience ran out and I hit control-alt-delete to see what was happening with my computer. I could hear it really running so I have a look and sure enough it's at 100%.
I think, what the hell could be doing so much? Firefox was at 25% and something called Winwordexpress.exe is at 75%. What the hell is winwordeexpress.exe? That can't be right so I end that process.
This all took approximately 10 seconds.
So, back to business. I go to respond to the e-mail again and I get an error: "Microsoft Word is set to be your e-mail editor. However, Word is unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook.
Hmm. This is new. It's now dawning on me that maybe I shouldn't have ended that process after all. So I do what any other computer illiterate does -- close it up and restart. Now Outlook won't even open. And this causes panic. So restart the whole works and hope for the best. Thankfully, it opens. But it still gives me that error and instructions on how to fix it.
So I follow the instructions (tools - options - mailformat - click the little box that says "use word to edit bla bla bla" - apply). Hooray!
But nope, I go back to reply (still to the same damn e-mail) and I get the same message. So back to mailformat, and the box I just checked is unchecked.
Clearly I screwed something up, but I do indeed have Word on this computer. It's open right now. It doesn't want to accept that though.
Any ideas on how to remedy this problem?
It doesn't seem to be a big deal, because I can still use it, but it just looks different. It gives me blue text (which I am capable of changing) and formats everything differently.
