Question Forum Loading Issues

Anyone else having issues with CP pages not loading for a while? As I type this, the page is still trying to load and there is the hourglass icon next to the mouse cursor. All pages seem to do this for me. I'm not having the issue on any other forum. It seems there is an element that is holding up the loading of pages. Perhaps a google ad or an image of some sort?

I have this issue with Opera, Firefox and Google Chrome so it's not a browser issue.

It may have been an issue where the ad servers or Google's analytics servers were being slow.. is it still happening? I'm not seeing anything like that at the moment.

Yep, tried it just now and it is still happening. I'm not sure what is not loading, but it's something that is holding up the page loading completely.

Edit: As soon as I posted the above response, the page finsihed loading.

Obviously it's an external source of some kind (Google) like you mentioned, and I realize it's tough to control but it does get annoying. Not sure why these browsers won't just give up after 10 seconds and not load the element. I've looked for timeout settings but can't find any in Opera.

Opera eh? I'll give Opera a try on the site when I get home and see if I can do anything tweak wise.

As mentioned in the original post though, I tried Opera, Firefox and Google Chrome and ALL had the same issue. Latest versions of all as well.

Oh yeah, right. Hm.. maybe something with your ISP or computer configuration then? DNS entries or something? I'm not seeing that at all on any of the computers or browsers I try it on, and that includes in the US and Canada as i was traveling this weekend.

Are you running any kind of software that might mess with your internet? Proxy, or one of those programs that block specific hosts? Or maybe check your hosts file to see if there's an entry there?

Also some antivirus packages that include firewalls and such can mess with your connection, maybe try disabling whatever you've got installed just to see if that's the problem.

Yeah, I've reviewed everything Photon. I'm a programmer...know all the possible issues that could be causing it, but can't see anything on my end. It's not happening on any of the other numerous forums I visit either.

I'm not having any issues.

I wonder if it is localized to EDM or your ISP?

Sorry OilKiller, sometimes hard to know what level of technical expertise I'm talking to.

Must be that QoS filter I have in place to degrade the performance for Edmonton people

There's lots of people surfing from Edmonton from that ISP so I don't think it's an ISP thing. Is it the same on the front page (www.calgarypuck.com)?

You could try *cough* an ad blocker in Firefox to block individual elements (like just the google analytics part, or just the casalemedia) to try and determine what it is that's causing the slowdown.

It's not Google analytics then because I apparently don't have it on the front page yet (d'oh).

So you could try blocking the casalemedia.com domain to see if that makes a difference, that will at least tell you what server you're having problems reaching.

Nope.

I have tried pretty much blocking everything and still no difference. Everything was fine last week. Something changed recently and I haven't done anything on my system this week.

Maybe setup the browser to use your ISP's proxy and see if that makes a difference?

Other than that I can't think of anything else it could be, at least not without being able to sit down and test things.
