Port Blair, India — Two days after a tsunami thrashed the island where his ancestors have lived for tens of thousands of years, a lone tribesman stood naked on the beach and looked up at a hovering coast guard helicopter.

He then took out his bow and shot an arrow toward the rescue chopper.

And they've got a picture to back it up.

They originated in Africa and migrated to India through Indonesia, anthropologists say.

This part really seemed strange. Unless the circumnavigated the globe this seems quite the roundabout trip to me!

It probably took them a couple of years

I assume most peoples took a path similar to that, assuming African origination.

Assuming Africa is the starting point...most people would travel along the coastline not into open water. The first coast you come to from Africa India? or Indonesia?

India.

Mind you considering their are people that went to Easter Ilse.....

But from reading the history of the island the indigenous people are two separate peoples. So they probably had 2 different starting points. Interesting though.

Outsiders are forbidden from interacting with the tribesmen because such contact has led in the past to alcoholism and disease among the islanders, and sexual abuse of local women.

“They have often been sexually exploited by influential people — they give the tribal women ... sugar, a gift wrapped in a coloured cloth that makes them happy, and that's it,” said Mr. Roy.
