Christmas is here again, and that means it's time for my family to call every possible relative we have across the country, to wish them a Merry Christmas and talk about the current weather situation.

Of course, my parents aren't the type that will "Say hi to them for me", so I end up talking to people I barely know. Distant cousins that I knew when I was 4, Aunt's who aren't blood related or I don't like, or my gay uncle's partner.

I like talking to my grandparents, and relatives I am close to. But the other one's...why do we bother? They don't want to talk to me, I don't want to talk to them, but we still converse with meaningless chatter and pretend to be interested in what each other has to say.

Does anyone else love doing this as much as I do?

I don't call because every year almost every family member living in the country, and some abroad, journey to Calgary for Christmas and New Years. It's equally as bad, because I have to hug and converse face-to-face with people I barely know.

Mrs. Cowperson makes the calls - making them right now as a matter of fact - and I wait in some obscure hiding place hoping I don't get called to the phone. So far, I've been lucky as my secondary mission is sending out the obligatory Christmas e-mails.

My brother phoned from Florida last night though . . . . and I visited my father's grave at Pine Lake two days ago, our second Christmas without him.

Gotta love the customary merry christmas/weather phone calls. Lucky for me, I see most of my family & the ones I don't, don't want to be called...

I am in the EXACT same boat. I live far away from ALL of my relatives. All of them live in New York, except for one aunt who is in Las Vegas. My family and I however, are in Florida, so the weather is vastly different than NY's, which makes it even more of a reason for my parents to converse with relatives.

I really really hate talking on the phone, not even just on Christmas, so this day is especially bad for me because I have to do it so many times.

From the sounds of it I am glad that I don't have to make these phone calls.

If I don't see members of my family at Christmas too bad for them I don't feel the need to chat with them n the phone for hours that is for sure.
