But what if you haved moved from Calgary and the last thing you really did was take in a Flames game? Thats what we did. Whole family went for one last game and the next morning we got up and drove our Ryder rent-a-truck and minivan to Ontario in January (many many years ago, not this past January). Now THAT was fun!

Frank! This your once a month post? You need to come around a bit more often. I was thinking about ya when I was in London last month, wondering if you were still in the old south area of the city.
Actually, I think a corollary to this question is, "Of the people who have moved away, what is the thing you must do when you come back (beyond visit friends/family; that is a given)?"

The last thing I would eat is a vietnamese sub. It's the only thing I can't replicate here in Van.
Other then that, I spent time with my parents and friends and just got out.

I always like to grab some Ginger Beef during my annual or biannual trip to Calgary. It's a Calgary original. Oh, and steak of course, gotta have a last minute steak before leaving town.

Take a drive out to Banff in the morning, rafting down the Bow in the afternoon and dinner at Moti Mahal.

when i was moving i just took time to say by to everyone before I left. We had a couple going away parties. The one with the boys, then the night out as well. Its all you really need to do. But to answer your questions from when I moved
1. Steak BBQ at my buddies (a tradition we all make sure to do when I'm in town)
2. Ship and Anchor was the last night out.
3. My going away parties.

I left last August and didn't really do anything. I stopped working a few days before I left. We were trying to sell the house so we were dealing with that stuff and didn't have time for much else. So the morning to leave came, said goodbye to my fiance who was staying until the house sold, hopped in the cab and went to the airport. Nothing too exciting, but then again, I was glad to leave.

I'd go to the Calgary Tower. It would be nice to look at the city from up there, and see what you are leaving behind. Even better still, have a genuine honest-to-God steak made with Alberta Beef in the revolving restaurant with friends and family.
And depending on where I was headed, I'd either toast my friends in celebration of new opportunities, or if I was moving to Edmonton, weep like a little girl into my steak while my drool soaks the table after attempting suicide via binge drinking.

I miss the ginger beef in Calgary, have never found anything like it elsewhere.
