Like, shut down the engine or it fell off type of lost?
And which is it... did it happen enroute or at the calgary airport?

Ok, does "Lost and engine" mean it fell off the plane, or that it lost all power?
Edit: BA beat me to my question.

I was thinking that it fell off on the runway.
Which is stupid, because when I think about it, people always talk about planes losing an engine in the "it shut off" sense.

It would be quite the feat if the engine fell out enroute to Winnipeg and they managed to return to Calgary

I'm sure it was a power loss from a bird strike or mechanical failure. Engines don't fall out very often.

I'm reminded of the horse racing commercial
"Hey bob, have you checked out loose bolts?"
"Nah, maybe next week"

Well, first hit on google for "plane lost an engine"
Quote:
Plane loses engine during take off
Kyla Hayes, who was on the plane, flying to Johannesburg on a connecting flight to London, said there was a clear "bang" as the plane took off.
"There was this bang and the whole plane just lurched to one side. For a while it seemed as if the plane could not get any height," said Hayes.
The plane eventually rose, as one of the passengers alerted cabin crew that an engine had "fallen off".
"We flew for another 30 minutes and the crew trained us in emergency flight procedures.
"As we landed they shouted at us to brace," said Hayes.
He described the landing as perfect.

Modern jets are certified to be able to take off, fly for some distance and land safely on one engine.

yep, even 747's. they can lose 3 and still function on 1. can't imagine how hard it would be to pilot a plane like that though

This to me is a non-event, things like this happen every day, just so rarely ever reported. Crew did as trained and got the plane back on ground safely.

Sounds like someone forgot to prepare the Fetzer valve with 3-in-1 oil and gauze pads.

Having trained in a 747 fight-simulator i can tell you thats false, if you lost 3 in level fight you would have enough power to make the next airport but if you lost 3 on takeoff it would be a mighty quick end. Boeing claims theres enough power to take off with 2 but when i tried i ran out of 12,400 feet of runway.

Bird got sucked into an engine so they returned to the airport for precautionary measures.
