Icon41 Gagne Moves to San Jose

The Sharks and Rangers hammered out a quick deal today which sees San Jose upgrade their wing position a bit. Coming in is concussion case Simon Gagne and his great 2-way play. Deal breaks down as this:

To NYR:
Max Afinogenov RW/LW, 28y 76ov 3y@$4.75
Patric Hornqvist C, 21y 7.0C

To SJ:
Simon Gagne LW, 28y 78ov 1y@$6.0
Morten Madsen C, 21y 6.5C
Cash

Gagne will add not only more scoring ability, but greatly improved defensive play for the Sharks this season. Although he's a big risk concussion wise, we've read positive things about his recovery and believe he can come back to almost 100% again.

Tough thing about it is I also believe Maxim will rebound this season and is all signed up to a nice long term contract now. Hornqvist is a good prospect as well and at 21 years old, has already spent 2 years in the Swedish Elite League.

Thanks to the Jeff for the quick and painless talks and I wish Maxim and Hornqvist all the best in the Big Apple!

Both players involved in the trade are looking to return to earlier form, so as long as both and not just one of them scores like they used to, then the deal is even.

I think as long as Gagne is healthy he is a better bet to return to form...but that noggin worries me. Gagne is one of my absolute favourite players both in the sim and in the NHL - but that was a very bad knock on the head.

Rangers know this is a risky trade, both players had injury filled seasons...

Rangers are trying to fill the AHL and ECHL with good prospects... Patric Hornqvist is a guy who has a good chance to make the NHL this season....
