Default GAME 8: STAMPS at LIONS' DEN

Both teams are coming back from a bye week. It'll be interesting to see who will be back from the injured list from Calgary especially. So far, I haven't heard if MLB Saleem Rasheed will be back yet or not.

As we all know, the Stampeders are on a seven game losing streak on the road against the Leos. The last they won Wally Buono was still our coach and Marcus Crandell was our QB. I feel that the Stamps will stop that drought on Friday night.

OFFENSIVELY: Henry Burris, Joffrey Reynolds and the Olines will have to battle with Brent Johnson, Cameron Wake and MLB Javier Glatt. Last time they played each other this season, all 3 I mentioned from BC was a non-factor. Hopefully that will stay the same on this game. The only changes I am hearing so far for the Stamps is they will add a rookie receiver 6'5" from LSU Tigers Reggie Williams on the lineup.

DEFENSIVELY: Jojuan Armour and the rest of Defense are still pumped up after stopping Wes Cates last week. They are thinking they will do the same to Logan and even Lumbala. With RB Joe Smith out of the picture for the Leos, the Stamps can concentrate on stopping the slick running back Stefan Logan. There was no mention if Geroy Simon will be back for BC this game but he does, look for Browner or Bannister going after this guy. Not sure who the defense will play against this game. Would it be QB Jarious Jackson or Buck Pierce?

SPECIAL TEAM: Is this the time to see Howell finally go for a long run or are we still going to see his consistent 5-10 yards or letting the ball go all the way to the end zone? Are we going to see somebody else do a punt return other than Howell? I hope so.

Sandro deAngelis is always a consistent kicker so I don't expect any different here. Burke Dales has been up and down so far but he is doing his job. Our punt/kickoff returns stoppers have been good so far especially if they can eliminate some of the penalties. Browner and Cornish are the two best stopper we have. They will have a tougher task this time stopping Ian Smart.

I will update thread when I hear of any roster changes.

As I posted in the picks thread, I think it will be an Alberta sweep this week.

The Lions just dont seem together this season. So upsy downsy. If Burris plays like he is not in a coma they will win.

The only thing that saves the Lions is apart from Lumsden, they by far have the best Canadian players of any team.

Roster Moves:

CALGARY: LB Neil Ternovatsky and WR Reggie Williams are in; OL Godfrey Ellis and S Richard Karikari(hamstring) are out.

BC LIONS: SB Geroy Simon is in; SB Bret Anderson is out.

Notable:
Stampeder RB Joffrey Reynolds needs 54 yards rushing tonight to surpass James Sykes for 5th place on the Stamps all-time rushing yards.

SB Jermaine Copeland needs to have a breakout game tonight to forget about his dropsies in the past few games. DLine and LBs should keep on pressuring the QB. It seems that Jarious Jackson always had good success against Calgary especially coming off the bench.

Will be at the game, my first live Stamps game in a few years. Unfortunately, I don't have a stamps shirt/jersey, so look for a drunk idiot in some horrible section wearing a red mile t-shirt.

GO STAMPS GO!

Looks like it is going to be shootout at the OK Corral the way these guys are playing. It is going to be a high score unless both defense makes some adjustments. It is now 10-7 Calgary. GO STAMPS GO!!

It drives me crazy how the clock does not run at the end of the half in the CFL. BC nearly had three possessions in the last 2:10 of the first half. You don't need time-outs, because the clock is never running.

Calgary is ahead again by 19-18.

It is good to see a duel between the OLine and DLine but I think Rob Lazeo is concentrating too much on trying to get Tyrone Williams' nerve that he is forgetting to help the other guys. In the last few offensive series we have, Burris and Reynolds gets pressure right away.

Anyways, looks like the defense for both teams are starting to take over. Labinjo just got a sack and BC is punting.

Great physical game. The Lazeo-? battle is fun to watch.

Anyone else get a little embarrassed when Howell returns a punt/kick? Pathetic. At least he's holding onto the ball this year mind you.

I didn't see any holding penalty on Lazeo on the play before the INT.

Howell made a great return - 55 yards.

I don't think that was a penalty at all. The guy pushed him so he pushed him back. No holding or whatsoever.

One great return a game is not enough. Howell is so inconsistent. He is consistent on 5-10 yards or letting the ball bounce to the end zone though.

Looks like the D wants to choke away another 4th quarter lead, but the refs missed an obvious clip on the first pass to Clermont.

shoot that freaking Logan guy is a slick little fella. BC just tied the game. It seems that whenever BC replace their starting QB, they get back in the game. The last game in BC Pierce started the game then replaced by Jackson and Stamps gave up a big play.

Offense needs to answer the bell. Enough of throwing the ball to rookie Williams and start using Geronimo more often. It's kind of weird that I haven't Brett Ralph's name getting called yet.

CGY has three road wins now - more than last year.

Too many drives ended with FGs - five.

That was not pass interference on the Stamps scoring drive.

Why wouldn't they review if Geroy was out of bounds before making it 3rd and 15?

Missed that one. Admittedly, I've only caught about half of the games this year. It just seems that the returns I've seen have all been straight into a wall for under 10 yards.

That's an interesting point.

It looked like Simon never really had control and if the officials were setting the precedent with Rambo's no-catch in the 1st half then Simon's was clearly not a catch as well.

Good game tonight for the Stampeders 36-29. It was a nailbiter again at the end but both the offense and defense came up big late in the game. They snapped the 7-game losing streak at the BC Dome and Reynolds surpassed James Sykes as the 5th all-time leading rusher for Stamps history.

The game started with Burris throwing the ball then Joffrey Reynolds ran the ball 46 yards for a touchdown. BC answered the bell and scoring a TD as well on their first series. Overall, I am very happy with the game and the win. We are now tied with Eskimos for second place in the West. Next game: Labour Day Classics.

Offense: With an exception of 1 INT that was returned for a TD, Henry Burris did well tonight. He answered the bell after BC Lions tied the game. Brett Ralph who was not a factor early on scored a TD late for the lead. Nik "Geronimo" Lewis is of course was there again whenever the Stamps need him and scored a TD. Ken Yon Rambo made some good catches was not called upon a lot earlier but he was always a threat there. Teyo Johnson made 4 catches and answered the bell when his name called upon. Rookie Reggie Williams didn't get a reception but Burris went to him a few times. Some of the ball were catchable and some weren't. Joffrey did have an excellenty night again running for over 100 yards tonight. The OLinemen did a good job giving Burris lots of time. Agaisnt the best DLines and LBs in the league, the hoggies did well. Rob Lazeo had a battle with Tyrone Williams all night and it looks like he made him angry. OLine gave up 2 QB sacks but overall they did well.

Defense: By far the best our defense played with the exception of stopping the run. Mind you, the way that little puke Logan ran the ball I guess not a lot of team can stop him. Defense played well when it counts late in the game. Wes Lysack had a great late game tonight. Mike Labinjo playing the ends played spectacular tonight with 1 QB sack and lots of QB pressures. He definitely is more dominant playing on the line(end) than playing MLB. Charles Hughes also played well tonight with 2 sacks and few QB rushes. The Stamps defense had a great pressures tonight. DBs was okay as well. Jackson couldn't do much all night and Pierce only had one good series.

Special Teams: Well, what else can we say to the best kicker in the CFL? Sandro is Mr. Automatic again. Howell had a good return on one occassion but he is normal tonight. Howell left the game in the 3rd quarter. Reynolds is another Mr. consistency in kickoff return. THe punt/kickoff return cover guys did well stopping Ian Smart from getting some good yardage.

Coaching: Good consistent calls tonight.
