Default Motorcycle accidents...

Are the worst. I was merging onto the Yellowhead Tr. here in Edmonton a couple of house ago, when 4 or 5 cars in front of me, a motorcycle was somehow involved in an accident with a semi-truck. I apologize for the morbid topic here, but seeing someone laying lifeless on the ground really hit home. I don't ride bikes, but have really been contemplating getting my license recently. It just isn't in my cards anymore.

The news is saying there is no word on the extent of injuries to the rider, but it didn't look good. I am not really sure why I created this thread, other than to tell all bikers here to stay safe.

One of my dad's friends was going up to the Skeena River this year to do some salmon fishing driving an older motor home. All of a sudden this bike comes tearing up behind him and passes him on a double solid hairpin turn, getting back into his lane just in time. So the bike keeps ripping down the highway and goes to pass another car on the same type of turn. The driver of the motor home turns that corner just in time to see the head of the biker roll one way and his body the other. The passenger on the bike was barely alive when he left.

I've kinda wanted to get a bike but after hearing that story...not for me. Bike riders are called organ donors for a reason. If you ride a bike, good on ya but like o_f said, stay safe. Those things are so damn dangerous.

Bikes are dangerous the way guns are dangerous... The machine is at the mercy of the user.

Sort of, but you are also at the mercy of everyone around you. So are people in cars and trucks, but you can still lose a collision in a car and survive. Your odds are a lot worst on a bike.

I am not anti-motorcycle, I just hate seeing stuff like this. I don't know what happened. Maybe the motorcyclist was at fault, maybe he was in the right and the semi truck was at fault. Either way, it's a lose-lose situation for all involved. I just hope he is OK.

My wife was about to be side swiped by a semi on 22x and sped up to avoid it, her cousin who was her passenger grabbed onto her shoulders instead of her waist and pulled her backwards off the bike. She skidded down the road on her back and had to walk back to her bike on a broken ankle.

that's the thing with bikes, sometimes it doesn't even matter if you're being safe, some idiot could run a light or stop sign and your life is done. That's what freaks me out about them. What would be a minor fender-bender for me could be a hellish ordeal for a biker.

There's no such thing as a fender bender on a bike...

Once heard a story about these 5 bikers sliding under a transport truck on a wet highway, north of Thunder Bay, Ontario, most if not all of them died, they were driving 1, 2, 2 and the first guy wipped out, my step father told me this story, he drove pulp for 40 years.

I've ridden for a number of years and have friends who have ridden for decades, accident free. There is risk in anything. I chose to enjoy life and protect myself by being well trained and riding conservatively and defensively. Yes, I know stuff can happen. Hey, I'm in Spruce Grove and would be happy to come and give you a ride on the Gold Wing. You'll enjoy it and may sing a different tune. PM me is interested.

Yeah i've seen some pretty sick pics of bike accidents. Stuff that you can't unsee.

I totally respect all Motorcycle riders except I've known too many idiots who think their stories of doing 180kph down highway 1 near Golden while stradleing the yellow paint in between traffic are funny. At least if they crash it'll just be them going, unlike most drunk drivers.

Luckily most riders are pretty safe its the idiot car/truck drivers you need to look out for.

Passed a nasty bike accident on the way back from Fairmont today. I guess the guy hit a deer. It was not a good scene. I sure hope that guy is alright!

That, cant have been pretty. My sister hit one in a barn truck once and the truck didnt fare well, I cant imagine a bike.

Well, I can, but I'm not going to spell out the grisly details.

Yeah that's one of the most dangerous things for motorcycles while on the highway. I'm particularly watchful around dusk as the fall season is starting.

I hit one on a dirtbike when i was kid, on a dirt road the friggin thing shot out from the trees and lucky for me i was only going about 20 mph and it was a glancing blow, but i ended up in a marsh and had to push the damn bike home for 2 miles because it wouldn't start.

I would think going 50-60mph one would need a lot of luck to survive.

I heard a motorcycle accident in Penticton. Heard the crash and looked over the fence to see the guy lying on the ground. Unfortuantly, this was in Penticton in the summer, so he was only wearing shorts and a tank top. It wasnt pretty.

Interesting as I was just talking about this the other day:

A friend was walking outside the hospital on Oak st (Vancouver) 2 weeks ago, only to see a crotch rocket come ripping up the street, while a 80 year old woman in incoming traffic turned left in front of the bike. The biker hit the car, supermanned cleanly right over it, only to hit the light pole perfectly perpendicular to his body, and literally cut himself in half. His lower abdomen/legs landed about 10 feet from my friend, with his torso/head about 20 feet away. Gruesome. She said it was horrible to see, but it felt like something totally surreal like it was a movie or something.

So in conclusion, motorbikes are bad uuumkay

Two things could have prevented that obviously...the speed of the biker, and the old lady turning left in front of him. Maybe he was coming too fast for her to see, but damn left hand turns are dangerous. That's why you can't turn left on many red lights up here now. A police car ripped a left turning vehicle in half a few years ago, killing a young child.

Sick. I wonder if his torso and head were still alive for a minute after that.
