Federer vs Tipsarevic.........WOW what a match this is so far. It's 6-6 in the 5th set right now. Match has been over 4 hours now. Unbelievable tennis.

Yup, good match. The Jason Blake match before that was also a dandy.

So glad tennis is back! The Aussie Open is often a strong indication of the up-coming tennis season. I think there might be a slight changing of the guard on the men's side. Although I think Federer will continue to be number 1, I think he'll get pushed more and more.
There's been a few great matches at the Open so far, including the ones mentioned above. The Cilic upset over Gonzalez was great to watch.
Although Dancevic was outed in the first round of the Open, I think he'll have a strong season. He's ranked 74th right now. It could be a decent year for Canadian tennis players.

Man, I went to bed cause the Federer match was on so late, but would've loved to see that battle. Even though Roger was down two sets to one when I went to bed, I was pretty confident that he would end up beating the 49th seed. I just didn't think the fifth set would be this dramatic.
Oh well. I'm just glad Andy Roddick looked like a baby in his upset lost

Indeed.
That, though, was the signal for Roddick to lose his temper with umpire Emmanuel Joseph. "You're an idiot," Roddick yelled. "Stay in school, kids, or you'll end up being an umpire."
http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/news?slu...ters&type=lgns
And commenting on his opponent's win:
Let's call a spade a spade. Let's not put him in the hierarchy of tennis yet," Roddick chided a questioner.
"Let's let him get into the quarter-final of a slam before we put him in the hierarchy of tennis."
He did go on to say that Kohlschreiber played well, but...such sour grapes.
Interestingly enough, Roddick wasn't penalized for any of his swearing, comments toward the ref, or toward Kohlschreiber's "little section of fans" who were being supportive .
Generally, I like the guy. He's got talent, but his PMS really gets in the way. He was able to keep his control for the majority of last season and he played exceptionally well. His temper and attitude is his major downfall. Jimmy Connors can generally keep him in check, but I guess not this match.

Federer plays Berdych now in round 4 and if he wins that will play Blake in the quarters most likely. The match i'm looking forward to is the potential semifinal match of Federer (1) vs Djokovic (3). The winner of that imo wins this tournament. Nadal (2) and Davydenko (4) are good players on the other side of the draw but Nadal is more of a clay specialist and Djokovic is on his game right now. I still think Federer will win this tournament but Djokovic could push him to a 5 setter. Also of note is that if Nadal wins this tournament and Federer loses before the semifinal, then Nadal would be ranked #1 in the world. I don't think that will happen but interesting nonetheless.

It was a huge upset if you were listening to the commentary.
Those cheerleaders are absolutely shocked that their beloved Serena is out. Let's hear them cheer for Venus tonight.

Federer Express looked great in beating James Blake in the quarters early this morning in straight sets 7-5, 7-6, 6-4. Down to the semifinals on both sides.
Men's Semifinals:
(1) Federer vs (3) Djokovic
(2) Nadal vs Tsonga
Women's Semifinals
(3) Jankovic vs (5) Sharapova
(4) Ivanovic vs (9) Hantuchova
I say Federer, Nadal, Sharapova and Ivanovic win their matches with Federer and Sharapova winning the tournament.

Agreed on both counts. Federer is such a humble player who dominates the sport. Best tennis player ever imo. He's now been to 15 straight grand slam semifinals and if he wins this will only be 1 back of Sampras' record of 14 grand slam titles (and he is only 26 years old!) 2006 and 2007 he won 3/4 of the slams only missing the French each time (losing in the finals to Nadal both times). I think this could be the year he wins them all. Agassi was my favorite tennis player growing up but since he retired Federer took over that spot.

Battle of the hotties in the women's final
Sharapova vs. Ivanovic
I didn't think Ivanovic would come back and win the semis after losing the first set 6-0 and being down a break in the 2nd to Hantuchova. But wow, what great determination to come back and win 6-3 in the 2nd and break at 4-4 in the 3rd and win 6-4. So huge.
I'm hoping Ivanovic wins well cause, brunettes > blondes.

Yeah that was a great match. With the way Sharapova is playing though I don't see her losing. I'll say 6-4, 6-4 Sharapova in the final.
Nadal/Tsonga semifinal match starts in 15 minutes.

Nadal loses! Not by a squeaker, but dominated in straight sets!!!
Everyone jinxed him by mentioning that he could be the #1 ranked player (if the Fed didn't make it to the semis, and Rafael makes the finals)
I had a feeling the winner of the Federer/Djokovic match would win the tournament and with this upset, I would bet the farm on it now

Tsonga dominated Nadal, if he plays like that in the final he'll beat whoever he faces. Then again I thought Gonzalez had what it took to beat Federer last year and that didn't pan out.
As for the women's, Sharapova vs. Ivanovic = yum Is it safe to say this is the hottest final of a major EVER?
