Extra wife = Extra life
http://www.newscientist.com/article/...6_head_dn14564
According to this study, men from polygamous cultures live quite a bit longer than those from monogamous cultures, and the hypotheses for this longer life include:
They take better care of themselves as they still have children to support as they get older.
There is evolutionary selection for longer life, as the longer life means more genes passed on thru young, fertile wives.
And my personal favorite - they have multiple women to take care of them when they get decrepit.
Ah yes, that's what I need when I'm a geezer - a few wives to share out the unbelievable fun of emptying my bedpan and giving me sponge baths.

It's a dangerous road to travel... in those cultures I'm sure the women don't have as many rights, men own them as opposed to us who date and get nagged and whatnot....
*sigh* Hef did it right....

I'm thinking economic factors probably have a role as well.
Let's face it, it isn't Johnny NoCash who is getting married to more than one woman, the richer you are the more wives you can afford, and the better medicine you can afford.
It's an interesting tidbit, but correlation does not necessarily imply causality.

Yeah, that's what I thought initially. More resources = usually related to higher social status and more wives. Higher social status = better care the wives are going to take care of the husband to maintain that status.
Makes sense too that the longer life gene is selected for considering the longer you live the more times you get to pass it on.
Funnily enough It doesn't mention a correlation of no. of wives with age in general and within the same culture.
The interesting part for me was that remarried men in monogonous cultures that have more children in the second marriage and end up with on average more children than one marriage men don't end up with any more grandchildren.

Tough call on whether multiple sets of breasts would make up for twice the nagging, TLC programming etc.

Think of it in a business sense. You're the purchaser, they're the suppliers selling the same thing.
If one of your suppliers acts up, you go to the other one. If one tries to raise the price of its goods, you play the price of the other supplier against it, keeping them in line.
If the 2 suppliers get together and try to screw you over, you dump them both and develop 2 more!!!

This research is clearly flawed. Husbands typically die before their wives because they want to.

Which means less time to watch sports. Count me in the "no" camp as well...unless they're all bisexual and totally down for nightly threesomes (or foursomes)!

But just think... they won't be lonely and REQUIRE your attention because they have each other. Get another TV and watch the sports there.
