Seems like Taekwondo is having a lot of contravercy these games. I think they need to rework the scoring system too. I was watching on tv and there were so many hits that didn't register any points.
An athlete should never attack the referee and he deserves to be banned for life. However, the Olympic body should have a real good look at the quality of the reffing in TKD as it wasn't only the Cuban athlete that had complaints about it.
I thought the most interesting part was that even his coaches did not apologize for the actions.
Usually a cooler head will prevail, but this ref really pissed off the Cubans.
Hitting a referee is never an option. There are better ways to dispute the call - and for the record disqualifying a guy while he is awaiting medical attention is a bogus way to end a medal match. A dispute was called for - but an official one, not a bushleague attack of the ref.

I don't know much about the WTF rules, but wouldnt this similar to a KO in other fighting sports? If you legitimately cant get off the mat after one minute because you've been injured, the fight shouldnt go on.

I don't know why the guy was down to start with. He looked fine throwing those kicks at the ref.
Not at all, as I've said, I would rather start with LA over any of the other WC playoff teams. Bunch of underachievers who look good on paper but don't even deserve to be in the playoffs.
I saw the video on TSN. The referee is actually lucky the kick didn't land clean. It kind of skimmed his face. The guy then went after some other official. What a psycho. Lifetime ban is what he deserves for sure.
