Isn't 16th the N / S divide?
That or the river... or some other magical line.

Technically, it would be Center Avenue, which is located just north of Downtown.

The Wedding Pavilion is north of 34 Ave NW but it has a SW address.

On the west side of the city The Bow River separates North from South until it hits 16th Ave in Bowness, west of that's it Highway 1. The only place you can find Centre Ave in the west is somewhere in Spruce Cliff, I can't even see it on the map, and it's considered to be in the SW. I worked just south of COP a lot, near the area the guy speaks about, it's definitely the SW.
Anyway, to get back to the guys original question, he needs a route from COP to YYC. I'm not sure exactly sure where the Airport Campus is, Taxiway N is all I can get from googling. If you're on the north side of YYC you'd get different directions then if you were on the south side. Let us know where the Campus is in relation to the Airport.

Something like that? 16th Ave east of the University to Deerfoot has sucked for years. It sucked before they started working on the expansion and it remains sucky to this day. I used to drive my wife to work from Patrician Village by McMahon Stadium to just west of Deerfoot. You can save yourself some frustration by taking 20th Ave from the University to almost Deerfoot. It's kind of a side street and you have to deal with a couple school zones but it's not too bad.

I like 16th to 14th, then over to northmount drive, which turns into 32nd. But that can sometimes take a while too.
/eagerly awaiting NW ring road section.

He's in a for a crappy commute, no matter which way he goes.
According to that google map it takes a half hour the way it shows it. And unfortunately that is the best way to go. I bet any money it'll take an hour, maybe a bit more. Unfortunately there's no direct route to 16th from that area. At least in the mornings there usually isn't a ton of traffic on Bow Tr. turning to go north on Sarcee, most of it's going straight through the lights to get downtown. After that your worst spot will probably be going east on 16th from Sarcee through Montgomery. A ton of traffic there trying to get on to Memorial. Usually it's not too bad at the top of the hill near foothills but we're talking the busiest time of the year right now with kids going back to school, vacations being over, etc. As far as the east side of the city goes, I can't say, I don't go over there.

I might try something like Crowchild to 24 Ave NW to 14 ST. to John Laurie to 19th St. The only problem is I can't remember it you can get on Crowchild N from Bow Tr.
Maybe Bow Tr to 11 Ave SW to 14 St N to John Laurie or 40th to 32nd to 19St NE. I've been gone from Calgary a few years so traffic patterns may have changed but I'd avoid 16 th Ave and Deerfoot.

Eastbound Bow trail early in the A.M. (rush-hour) is a nightmare. It's always backed up to Sarcee.

I used to live on Broadcast hill, and the route I took was north on Sarcee, east on 16th for a short while, then north on Home Road to the top of the hill, turn right (East) on 34th avenue and get onto 32nd ave by Market Mall. That's the tricky back roads part.. from there you're on the north edge of UofC campus and it's your choice on getting to the airport from there. John Laurie/McKnight used to be a good route.

Anyone know the status of the Stoney Trail project?
If it's completed up to Beddington Blvd it might be worthwhile to take Stoney to Beddington, turn east on Country Hills Blvd, cross deerfoot and access the airport via Barlow Trail North.
WindomURL has the best route to get to the university in rush hour by far. After some experimentation I found I could cut my commute in half by using that route.

Thanks Kidder!
It really is a great shortcut. Lots of long time Calgarians know it as you'll find out once you drive on it.
I was off a little bit with my directions. According to Google maps, the right turn at the top of Home Road puts you on 32nd Ave. All these years I thought it was 34th Ave.. whatever.
Continue on 32nd eastbound where it becomes Charleswood Dr. after crossing Crowchild (at London Drugs). Keep going on that road then turn right on John Laurie.
Should be easy sailing from there!
Let's see if this works.
