It's pretty much a guarantee that I'm getting an iRiver for Christmas. I was just wondering how fast it takes to upload the music? My family and I are going to Hawaii Christmas night so I was hoping to get some music on it for the plane ride.

Also, would it be smart to have all the songs I want to upload organized in folders, etc.? I heard some guy talk about how keeping your folders organized on the iRiver decreases start-up time so I figure that you might upload the songs in the folders they are in on my PC.

Finally, how much time am I looking at to charge the batteries?

Transfer speeds are USB 2 rates. So you wont need to worry about speed.

And of course it's smart to organize your songs. Your PC detects iRiver like any old removable or external hard drive. You plug it in, Windows detects it and then you just drag and drop folders whatever... That feature makes it so much better than the ipod.

I'm not sure about the iRiver, but with my player it organizes songs by their tags rather than by directory.. so it's important to make sure that the id tags are correct.

Then I can look by album, artist, song title, genre, etc etc... I can also create playlists of specific songs and/or albums and store those as well.

Yup, my iRiver sorts by tags and for some reason you can't re-arrange song orders. Not sure if that's been fixed with the higher version models.
