Mover Reccomendations

Clearly based on the threads that I've started some of you can guess that I've recently bought a new (old) home, anyways, we're at the point of looking for some movers and wanted to know if there are any we should avoid and any that might come recommended that you've had good experiences with. Just a small move though, 2 bedroom to 3 bedroom place type move, no grand pianos or antique armoires to worry about.

Avoid Two Small Men With Big Hearts. Seriously. We used them and they were beyond horrible. They even tried to steal stuff from us. Maybe it was just the two guys who did our move, but still, you don't need that crap. Moves are stressful enough as it is.

When I moved out of our loft in Inglewood we used 2 people from that workers corner, they were actually awesome but yeah don't know if you should try that at home

Here's a couple tips: if you're going to hire movers, treat them the way you'd appreciate being treated if you were the moving man. Offer water and pop, maybe sandwiches if it's a big move... As for Ford's bad experience with TSM, I actually workd for those jokers once, and while I have nothing good to say about the company, it really does come down to the actual guys doing the move and not the company.

A little respect goes a loooooong way. If you're cool, they'll go the extra mile and do their best to keep your stuff from getting damaged. Dangle a carrot for them and ask them if the boss will allow them to have a beer when the job is done. That's code for: yo, I'll have a sixer on ice for you if you don't throw my stuff around like I'm your ex.

Good advice. We tried to do that with the TSM guys too, but it didn't help. We bought them breakfast, gave them water, pop & beer. We even helped tote boxes to the truck and into the house on the other end. One of the guys was okay, the swamper, but the driver was a complete waste of skin, and he claimed to be one of the principles in the company. If his claim was true, then it doesn't say much for the company's bosses. And he was the guy that tried to steal from us ... a nice oak chair. We caught the chair, but there was some other stuff that went missing that we didn't notice right way, which never turned up. I'm assuming "Tiny" bagged the stuff.

Not surprising. That company is operated out of a dumpy old warehouse in NE Calgary (sorry, jack). I worked there for 5 weeks. After one week, I had my own truck and crew. The place is embarrassing. The trucks are not roadworthy. The guys they'd give me to work with were street people (on a side note, I had bales of respect for the so called 'street people' that would actually show up and haul stinking couches around all day so that they were a penny closer to a damage deposit), generally, that company is on the very fringe of credibility. Having a driver's license gives you an extra dollar an hour. Being able to manouver a 5 ton out of a parking lot puts you on the ladder toward senior management.
