i have not checked in a while.. but it was shut down to canadian users, so people wanting to use it in canada would have to use a proxy through somewhere else.
it does not require registration (when i used it) but registration pretty much improves the site for you....

They were, but they've been back for a few months now.

They don't, but non-registered users only get access to torrents that are couple days old. In other words, if you're looking for something they have that is older than a couple days, you need a registration.

...for anyone that has tried to get one, it's quite hard to get.

You dont need a proxy to use Demonoid in Canada, I have no problem using it.

You did need a proxy for Canadian users for a while, but it stopped a few months ago. In my experience, they have one of the best collections of Mac torrents out there. When I'm home, I'll check to see if I have any invites to give.
