Default Help! BSOD!

I have run into the ever frustrating Blue Screen of Death. I am recieving an error that says Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I have tried updating my video card drivers but that hasn't helped. I appreciate any help as the technical aspects of a computer are not my forte.

I am running Windows XP.

I am also recieving the following information.

Technical information:
*** STOP: 0X000000D1 (0X0000BF34, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xB74B837F)

*** NVTcp.sys - Address B74B837F base at B74B3000, DateStamp 45061f45

Beginning dump of physical memory

NVTCP.sys looks like a network card driver for the nForce nvidia chipset.

Check the nvidia website for the latest nforce drivers for your chipset, you might have to check your motherboard model to figure out if it's nforce2, 3, 4, etc..

Could also be related to that nvidia firewall software if you've got that installed.

Could also be an actual hardware problem with the network chip, though that's unlikely. Barring anything else you can try disabling it in BIOS and using a different network card.

Does this happen on every bootup? Or just at random intervals? Or on heavy use (bittorrent)?

Happens on every bootup it depends on the use though. Bit torrent works ok but if I start using MSN I am usually in trouble.

Probably a driver issue then, do you have that nvidia firewall thing enabled?

I'd download the latest nforce for your chipset and install that, and flash the latest bios on to the motherboard if that didn't make any difference.

If you are using your Nvidia firewall, i suggest removing it immediately and using something else. Google helped me find this:

Basically, unistall Nvidia Network Access Manager since it sounds like it's overly buggy and incompatible software.

Update your chipset and drivers to the latest version, and remove Nvidia Network Access Manager.

How do I flash the BIOS?

Depends on the motherboard, check the manual or the motherboard makers website (or the computer makers website if it's a mainstream brand) and it should have instructions. Usually it involves downloading a program to do the flashing and the BIOS update file and running the program and selecting the file, newer stuff will run in Windows but in the past you used to have to put it on a floppy and boot from the floppy.
