The Official "Rate My Fantasy Football Team" and advice thread
Since we have a few of these threads pop up every year I thought I'd get a jump start and try to get everything FF-related into one thread. I'll get things started. My buddies and I just had our draft this past weekend. It's a six team league and here's what I have (10 spots, 7 bench):
QBs - Drew Brees (NO), Donovan McNabb (Phi)
RBs - Ladanian Tomlinson (SD), Marion Barber (Dal), Maurice Jones-Drew (Jac), Willie Parker (Pit), Darren McFadden (Oak)
WRs - Larry Fitzgerald (Ari), Reggie Wayne (Ind), Anquan Boldin (Ari), Calvin Johnson (Det), Jerricho Cotchery (NYJ)
TEs - Kellen Winslow (Cle), Benjamin Watson (NE)
DEF - Minnesota, NYG
K - David Akers (Phi)

Very nice set of RB's there Rube. I think the key to your receivers is health...the Cardinals duo has had issues with injuries. If they stay healthy they are probably the best 1-2 punch in the league IMO...and that includes Moss-Welker (or whoever you want to put in there).
My main fantasy football dilemma right now is how many leagues do I want to be in this year? I cut back to two last year..and I'm in the same two this year. I'm kind of jonesing though. Any other leagues would just be public yahoo leagues. How many are you in Rube?

I'm in two right now (this one and the CP league). I find if I don't spread myself around too many websites then I can handle being in more than that. Last year though I was in 2 Yahoo leagues and 2 or 3 ESPN leagues and I ended up abandoning the ESPN leagues.
EDIT: I agree with you on the Cards receivers. I'm kind of worried about Boldin but I picked him up in about the 12th round of our draft so it was good value at the time. I'm also worried about they bye week for those two when my WRs will effectively be Wayne, Cotchery and Johnson.
Our starting lineups look like this:
QB
WR (3)
RB (2)
TE
W/R
K
DEF

Here is my first league, I'll be in three Yahoo! leagues, and some friends of mine locally are talking about creating a keeper league.
8 team league, 9 players: QB, 3WR, 2RB, TE, K, DEF
QB- Brees (NO), Bulger (STL)
RB- A. Peterson (MIN), R. Grant (GB), J. Stewart (CAR), L. White (TEN), C. Taylor (MIN)
WR- A. Johnson (HOU), C. Johnson (CIN), M. Harrison (IND), R. Brown (PHI)
TE- D. Clark (IND)
K- S. Graham (CIN)
DEF- GB, NYG
We drafted the first weekend of camp for some crazy reason. I autopicked, so I've made some transactions since then.
I drafted a second TE (Lee, GB), and replaced him with LenDale White. I had Bobby Engram (SEA) as well, of course he is injured so I picked up Chester Taylor for insurance.
Does anyone play keeper leagues? I'd like to know a bit about them before i get involved. I'd appreciate a PM from anyone willing.

Yes I did. Ours was one of the weirdest drafts I've seen. Players went all over the place. I think I drafted Brees in the 6th or 7th round.

With only 6 teams QB's are really a dime a dozen!

Out of curiosity, how many of you guys play for money? I find that I am in so many leagues, that if money isn't involved I won't waste my time. The league that I run is 12 teams at $60 a pop. I'm hosting a hockey league that will have a $100 entry fee this coming season.

Nice crew, I guess I was just curious if it was easy to keep the same teams playing year to year. If someone decided to leave between seasons, do their players just go back into the draft pool? etc. basic stuff like that.

We're all buddies, its not randoms of the 'net. Then you'd get deserters for sure.
For us, we'd probably just "sell" the team to a new owner.

There are a hundred different way to run a "keeper"
IMO the best formats allow most established stars to return to the draft every year. If not you will get people quiting
We use this format:
1. You can only keep guys who's original draft position was 7th round and lower (Or waivor)
2. First year it cost a 6th round pick, next 4th, next 2nd, then FA no matter what
This means that guys who emerge or taken before they are starters (Larry Johnson a few years ago) etc, can help build your team and give you an advantage, but every year all teams at least have a chance to build a good team

My league at work is making the jump from $5 to $10 this year! WOOOHOOO! 12 teams. I won the first year. This is the third year. Interesting thing is last year was autodraft (without ranking players, pure computer draft) , year 1 was live draft. I won that one. I rule.

I like the first idea, but when you are describing the costs, I guess I need some clarification. Does it cost to keep a player other than the late rounders?
I guess I was thinking that at the end of season 1, all of the owners could choose any 3 players to keep for the next season, and repeat that process. While setting up my league on Yahoo, I saw this:
[quote]
Quote:
These rules govern when a player is labeled as a Keeper. This will only apply to players who were assigned as Keepers prior to your draft. Keeper status will be indicated throughout the game with this symbol: . This display symbol is for tracking purposes only and has no affect on league functionality, such as adding or dropping.
Show symbol for all Keeper players- All Season
- Stop showing symbol once a player is...
- Dropped and claimed off waivers
- Dropped and clears waivers (becomes a free agent)
- Never: Do not show Keeper symbol anywhere in the game.
|
So I have the option of designating players as keepers pre-draft, but that doesn't seem to be fair to the owners.
I'm getting input from the owners in my league, and I'll bring up your suggestions as well.
If this is getting too specific, I can take my questions to PM.

I'm in a keeper league version that includes defensive players. Good LB will put up as many points as a good WR. We keep all our players and draft only rookies and FA year to year. There are 12 players in the league, with everyone being really hardcore. I drafted 7th.
Young players are especially important because since the league will run for at least 5 years, guys like say Randy Moss and Tomlinson went lower because they will probably tap out in 2 years. We also get a practice squad of four 1st and 2nd year players
We start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1LB, 1 DL, 1 DB, 1 ST, 1 TE, and 1 RB/WR/TE
Here is my team:
QB: Jay Cutler, Marc Bulger
RB: Joseph Addai, Ernest Graham, Deangelo Williams, Ricky Williams, Tashard Choice
WR: Reggie Wayne, Roy Williams, Greg Jennings, Reggie Brown, Bobby Engram
TE: Vernon Davis, Todd Heap
LB: Patrick Willis, Antonio Pierce
DB: Adrian Wilson, Darrelle Revis, Dominique Rogers-Cromartie
DL: Jason Taylor, Glenn Dorsey
K : Mason Crosby
ST: Titans
I would love some input on what you think of my team.

VERY interesting team you got here. You better hope your QBs put up some points. Whats your explanation on drafting Tashard Choice, I think its a very interesting choice, I love this guy but hes probably looking at being 3rd on the depth chart and I really dont see him playing much at all unless both Barber and Jones get hurt. Heap screwed me over big time last year so I will avoid him at all cost.
Pretty solid defence, I love Willis, decent DBs and very risky DL. HUGE potential on the DL but very risky.
I assume you picked Dorsey with your 7th pick, but if Choice was your 2nd round pick you must think hes gonna become 1st string and win offensive rookie of the year.

Jones isn't with the Cowboys anymore. He plays for the Seahawks.
