Default leaky toilet - stipped a nut

As soon as fotze arrives my chances for an answer fall to zero, but I'll try anyway...

My toilet leaks from the water input at the bottom of the tank. I thought it was the washer so replaced it but it still leaked. The helpful guys at plumberteria suggest it is likely a tiny crack in the tank.

Trying to get that plastic nut on tight as hell (woops, mistake) I stripped it a bit. Trying to get it off I stripped it a bit more. (woops, bigger mistake).

I hear the plumber laughing all the way to the bank. So before I go any further does anyone know a great way to get those little plastic nuts off.

And failing that...is anyone a trusty plumber?

Cut it with a hacksaw?

Or just a hacksaw blade if space is tight. You using a plumbing wrench?

Go with the hacksaw or any other kind of saw and get yourself some metal bolts and nuts. Trust me, it is worth changing them out.

I had the same problem a while back. Look for the Syphon action as it could be clogged and the necessary pressure can't build up. Also make sure you have enough water in the toilet bowl and I think it should be 1/2" from the overflow. I did this last year so I don't remember everything but I did a heck a lot of research and this fixed it.

You could have a party/get to gether where one of your drunk friends breaks those little plastic bolts that connect you toilet to Seat/Lid.

FYI - they are like 1/2 price at Rona compared to Home Depot.

And wow, those bolts are all sorts of nasty so I spent 1/2 week cleaning the toilet.

Yah, dont screw them on too tight, the one thing I notice is that the washers are too large.

Man, just whatever you do, make sure the water is turned off before. A friend of mine who tried to play Mr. Plumber turned off what he thought was the toilet water valve, and when he unscrewed things, water just gushed out without anyway of turning it off (turns out the shut-off valve was in the basement of the apartment building which he had no access too). He ended up having to call the fire department....by the time they arrived he had flooded his whole apartment, plus the floor below.

Luckily it is plastic. You can get it out with just about any metal tool that will let you grind away at it.

When you replace it all, put some plumbers teflon tape around the threads of the new bolt/nuts.
