Yep. That's a really scenic route. It's a pretty abrupt turn you have to make once you start making your way south. It basically goes straight west for a while from Nanton, then you go up a hill, and it looks like the road keeps going west, but suddenly you crest and see your turn is like 15m away. Other than that, it's a great route, nice and windy about 15-20 mins out of Nanton. Never really had much traffic, but sometimes you get stuck behind a rig, but that's to be expected.
Not much else i can tell you. It really depends where in the city you live in. I usually take the 763 or something just outside of Bragg Creek and go through millarville, down to Longview etc. But if I have to go to the south end of the city for whatever reason, I'll always take the nanton route.

Crowsnest past??! Sounds Erie!! =p.
Crowsest pass on the other hand, is probably the most beautiful place I have ever been to on earth. Sincerely. If you havn't been there, or if your taking guests who've never seen the area, I would drive through Black Diamon/Turner Valley. It's beautiful. So is Longview!!. Either way I guess you'll pass through the Porcupine Hills area, which to me is the highlight of the trip! bahh, it's all nice, have fun!!

Man, as soon as I saw the thread title, I knew the spelling nazi's would be out. lol.
And yes, I've taken that route before. It does shave a little time off, imo.

My father spends most of his weekends down there fishing the Crowsnest, Castle, Carbondale, and Old man rivers. This is the route he and I always take when we had down there, and it’s faster trust me. In fact I will be taking it this weekend when I head down there

But which route are you talking about?
This has implications for many who go to the southern Kootenay as well.

Yes.
I realize he is likely already started on his journey, but #2 has about 20-30 km stretch under construction and speed is reduced and down to one lane.
Likely his old tried and true route would be quicker.

One of my absolute favorite drives in the World is to go south from Calgary, past the Big Rock near Okotoks, down hwy 22 to Crowsnest Pass via Longview. May be quicker to go Hwy 2 the whole way, but I don't care, I'd rather go through the Ranchlands and watch as the Rockies come closer diagonoly the further south you go (that's when you really see Alberta's shape).

For a real "rustic" trip, go west from Longview to Highwood House, then south on the gravel road to Coleman (940). You will drive through the Livingstone Range - can be quite dusty. On the way, you can visit Plateau Mountain, Livingstone Falls, or try fishing at Cataract Creek, Livingstone River and Oldman River. Lots of wildlife. No gas between Highwood House and Coleman.

I like to go west on 22x and then down 22. Its a pretty drive though and I have seen a lot of hawks and eagles on that route (which I think are generally pretty cool!).

I'm pretty sure 3 hours is the standard window of when those comments shouldn't be made, so you're in the clear.

Three hours? As soon as I read it I thought to myself... "Wouldn't be the first time someone got some head on a greyhound bus."

Once coming back from camping I took that route thinking maybe having the extra time on 4 lane highway would be faster. My friends took the Hwy 22 route.
I know they made it quicker as I had given them my spare water jug, and found it sitting on my front step when I got home.
