Calgary Parking Authority ticket
Hey CP,
Bad luck for me today, came back likely 3 - 4mins too late and got a parking ticket. Only $40, but I can think of many funner ways to spend that money!
I've got BC plates still. Anyone got any tips on how to get out of this? Do I have to BS or just pay the stupid fine. I guess I could ignore it, but I think I would get arrested next time I have my ID scanned.
Lame...

Here's how this will go down:
Poster 1: Take the ticket to court. I have a buddy who takes all his tickets to court and comes up with some excuse. The police officer sometimes doesn't show up and the thing gets tossed out. Don't pay it, dude.
Poster 2: Just pay the stupid fine and stop wasting your time and the time and resources of the city. You did the crime, you do the time. Sucker.
Poster 3: Here's a story about the exact same thing that happened to me except it was in Ontario and so it doesn't really help your BC plate situation.
fotze: Dirty joke such as "send them a spoon and tell them to eat your ass".
Poster 4: I like Robyn Regehr!

Wont get arrested.
You will get towed for your next ticket if you dont pay it
As well, I believe if you have Property tax it will be billed added to that somehow.
I wont add how to avoid paying it as I am a tax payer in the city.

No tips on how to get out of this cause I usually pay it myself, but cue the hall moniters.....................
"you did the crime, you do the time".
"Take responsibility like a man, and pay the ticket".
"You paid for one hour of parking, not one hour and three minutes".

I kind of like the idea of taking it to court just to see if the cop shows up. Then again, that could be a huge waste of time.
The anger of this has subsided considerably now that it's an hour old... I'll probably just pay the ticket.

This is a parking ticket though, completely different than a ticket you get issued by an officer. You don't even go to the same place to fight them.

If you can come up with a BS excuse plausible enough, fill out this form:
https://www.calgaryparking.com/adminreviewform.php3
They will conduct an "administrative review" and if you're lucky you will get off completely. If not then you can go to court, but 99% of the time you will always lose if they still found you guilty in the review anyways.

For $40?
Pay it, you'll waste more time than trying to come up with $40.

I think the question of the OP had more to do with what implications would there be if he didn't pay. As a Calgarian, I would worry about the city adding it to my property taxes or adding it to my DMV record so I'd have to pay when I went to renew my registration on my car.
As a BC resident, he likely wants to know if the city will just scrap the ticket instead of giving it to the BC DMV.

I figure that by the time he drives to the court ($10), parks ($20), gets a coffee and a snack ($5), spends three to four hours in court, gets another coffee and a snack ($5), and drives home ($10) over the $40 ticket he has paid himself:
$40 ticket MINUS:
10+20+5+5+10 = $50.00 expenses
+
@ $10.00/hr ( ) X 4 hours = $40.00
= (-$50.00!!!)
*assuming he pays himself basically minimum wage. If he makes over 100,000 a year then thats like $50.00/hour, putting him at:
= (-$210.00)
So I think for $40 dollars you might just want to pay it.

A true scholar... that's essentially what I was looking for. I mean $40 isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but it's still worth considering the options. I can easily spend $40 having fun at the bar, with of course the car parked at home.
My timing belt snapped the other day. I guess I could use that as my excuse of the car 'breaking down'

That's a good math formula! No, nowhere near 100,000/year I'm sorry to say, but nonetheless a wasted day or half day away from work.

I'm a little disappointed fotze hasn't given his dirty joke yet ...
Everybody else is correct. $40 just isn't worth the hassle. I'd pay $40 to not have to go downtown.

Send them a cheque for $41 just to show them you're a baller.
Maybe include a picture of a gangsta roll of $5 bills.
