Part of Phelps group will be here in Red Deer tomorrow and Saturday as well. Disgusting... makes me want to go just to protest the protesters.

I can't believe this... it's completely sickening. The family wanted to have a private funeral, now it's going to be a media circus. Instead of being able to greive in peace they're going to have this crap fest show up on their doorsteps. I hope the RC's put a quick end to any protest.

Oooo I caused a fata... I like the idea of letting Li out for a little one-day field trip though.

I encourage the over-excessive absuse of police tasers in this case. And, nightsticks. And, beanbag guns. And, more tasering.

Hell, put a Tesla Coil outside the funeral. Turn it on when Phelps' entourage show up and watch the fireworks show. Would be like the 4th of July!

Yup, I'm generally on the atheist side of things, but nothing makes me want to believe in God as much as the thought of these people finding out just how wrong they are.

God is not about promoting hatred. These sicko's do not represent his teachings. Just another fringe hate group using parts of the Bible to justify their sickening acts.

i love protesting protestors. When the G8 summit was held in Calgary 6 years ago myself and a few buddies wanted to protest the hippies and tree huggers and socialists. We got t shirts made up that "pave the world" and "capitalism rules". We walked thru the crowds of protestors and got booed and confronted. Even the cops were laughing at us.

Why are they coming to Red Deer again? These clowns shouldn't be allowed to cross the border and should keep their crap in the US.

Yeah, that was my point: that these guys would find out in the afterlife that God wants nothing to do with them because they've completely perverted the intent of his teachings, and that they're stuck in eternal damnation.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. These people cemented their plots in hell a long time ago.

To be fair, that main thread is 18 pages long. I'd have never heard about this had there not been a new topic on it, and I'm sure the same goes for others.

The more I think of this the more honored I'd be if these clowns made it to my funeral to protest my life. It would mean that I lived a honorable, normal life compared to these wack jobs. All their facts and beliefs are baseless and very narrow minded.

I really hope the attendees of this funeral don't let these nutjobs get to them and let Tim McLean rest in peace as he rightfully deserves. A tragic incident to a decent human being.

I wonder if some chapters of the Patriot Guard might not get in touch with the family to see if they'd like their support during the funeral.

Well at least god hates Fred Phelps too.

A fence and garage at Fred Phelps’ Westboro Baptist Church became engulfed in flames early Saturday

I think the most important message we take from all this is that Shirley Phelps-Roper's husband is known as Mr. Roper.

I'm all for free speech and freedom to protest but can anything be done to prevent these idiots from getting anywhere near the funeral? Its pretty clear cut that this is just wrong and so offensive to the family.

I went to their website to see why they are protesting in Red Deer. (Or Red Dear, as the Westboro site spells it) Basically all they say is that Canada is evil for not condemning homosexuality, and a bunch of other gibberish. This has my curiosity peaked, I'll have to check it out.

http://www.patriotguard.org/

This is what the Phelps' run into at every funeral they 'protest' in the US. I think you might see some of these guys show up in Winnipeg if the family is open to it.

Some states have passed laws restricting the proximity of funeral protests.
