Love the bleeding heart comments at the bottom of the article. Some people are calling for the termination of the supervising police officer. Get some f'ing perspective people.

Man, I was just down at Riley Park this weekend, picnicing with my wife and marvelling at what a 'civilized' park it was with the cricket pitches and manicured gardens. And now it's overrun with moose? I'm gonna be sleeping with a loaded shotgun on my lap tonight...

just put it to those people against the killing.. yes its bad to kill a moose, but would you rather have the moose cause a car accident on deerfoot? or have a plane run into it?
so those against the killing, are you saying the moose has the right to kill humans??
edit - they did try to tranquilize it ... for like 3 hours didnt they?

Not too often you get a treat like that in your backyard.......
Anyone know what they do with the meat ????

I didn't hear the final story, but I know that they were going to test it to make sure it wasn't contaminated, and if good to go, they were going to donate it to a needy family.

But didn't you read the comments? It was an INNOCENT moose!!
Honestly, that's something that pisses me off, the characterization of any animal as innocent. As if human virtues have any meaning when applied to animals. It's not innocent, in the same way that a bear who acts savagely to protect its young is not guilty of anything. People have such a desire for a story like this to have a happy ending; they want to believe that urban development can exist harmoniously with nature. It can't. But it's no more or less a tragedy than the many (I want to say hundreds, but really I have no idea) moose that get killed on highways every year.

I would love to see what the reactions are of these hippies if the moose had crossed Deerfoot and been hit by a car and one of their family members killed. They would be singing a tune for sure.
I would be in for a quarter of that moose as well. We could make some sausages. I <3 game meat.
My comments about the hippies applies to the first moose that was shot, not the second one that was captured.

Clip from the article:

Police and wildlife officers tracked the moose from SAIT to the University of Calgary where the terrified animal jumped through a
pain of glass into a walkway leading to the Reeve Theatre.

Well thats good, the only way this story was remotely tragic is if the meat was spoiled and not used to feed people. Burger Inn could buy the meat, as they have a moose burger I think, and the $$ would help pay for the ridiculous amount of resources and time wasted attempting to tranquilize it.

So, Calgary, a city where many weird things happen on a regular basis has their media outlets covering the story of moose in their city. Ok, so it was a story where a moose was shot dead by police.
Lethbridge has moose running loose in the city this past sunday (a very rare occurance) and not one media outlet in the city picks up on it.

Give it time, based on how late the Herald's stories usually are, it might appear in the Friday paper.

OMG, you bleeding heart morons... its a freakin moose. My only question is how do we bid on a steak? Is there a charity auction or something. If the meat went to waste, now that would be shameful.

I stand up for animal rights all the time but you have to use common sense in this situation. Animal control and the police tried very hard to tranquilize the moose and only used deadly force when it became necessary. It would probably die a much more painful death if it were lodged in a car windshield on the deerfoot (not to mention the people in the vehicle). Sorry folks, but shooting it is the only responsible and humane thing to do.
Kind of reminds me of people who get up in arms about vets who euthanize cats as if vets just sit around all day hoping like hell to kill something. Nobody wants to kill an animal, especially when they work with them.

When my little 12 year old brother and his friend came home yesterday and told me they saw a moose, I thought it was complete BS (or should we say MS in this case? Haha... haha... no.)
But then when they actually called the city to report it, I was just thinking it was too bad I wasn't out with them.
