Um, yeah. There's your problem. Show respect for the earth by driving swords into the ground? Sound like the earth got pretty sick of it and used whatever cosmic power it had to end the ritual. You would think that, I don't know, watering the grass would be a gesture that the earth would receive more favorably.
edit: okay, I realize I'm helping to derail the thread. It's unfortunate that there are some wiccans who are very mockable and ruin it for the rest of you. Maybe you can shed some light on actual beliefs and practices. It seems to me that without any central authority, there's a great deal of variance in terms of wiccan beliefs and practices... is it difficult for you to define your beliefs on a personal level because of that?

I am the last person to defend any kind of religion, but anyone who mocks Wicca and yet believes in some kind of God is a hypocrite. There is just as much evidence for Wiccan beliefs as there is for Christian, Muslim or other mainstream faiths. And at least the Wiccans aren't all fixated on telling other people what their morals should be.

Wow, kinda disappointed by the mockery here. This was obviously a huge mistake on my part assuming everyone would be respectful of others beliefs. Mods can you please delete this thread, thanks.

Wait, what? How is being Wiccan any different than following any other religion? Just because some others are more widespread and have more popular handbooks doesn't make them any less valid.
Don't want to start a war, but it seems anyone who ever says something other than I'm and athiest or I'm a Christian gets ripped on here. Why dump on someone else's beliefs? Because you're right any they're wrong? Aren't pride and arrogance a couple of those deadly sins?
If I misunderstood your post, sorry.
Anyways, respect to the OP for putting this out there. The least judgemental and most polite people I know are Wiccan. Nothing wrong with it at all.

Im kinda surprised too...Im not a Wiccan, but I am a Charvel/Charvette/Jackson guitar cultist and we have a porn star as our spokeswoman (just trying to be a bit humorous and probably not doing a good job ) but anyway...this reaction keeps from asking what I was going to ask. Ive known Wiccans -most of them very mellow people Why would a Wiccan ritual be considered by some to be more bizarre than that of the Catholic church?? Isnt Wicca primarily a religion based on respect of the earth or something..

Don't want to start a war, but it seems anyone who ever says something other than I'm and athiest or I'm a Christian gets ripped on here. (No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!) But why dump on someone else's religion? Pretty sure tolerance and understanding are an important part of all of em.

The nature of my post is that I am not hypocritical because I mock "Wicca".
I am I a hypocritical hockey fan if I mock Oiler fans?
