Default George Carlin Passes Away

Quote:
LOS ANGELES - Comedian George Carlin, a counter-culture hero famed for his routines about drugs and dirty words, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital Sunday, a spokesman said. He was was 71. Carlin, who had a history of heart problems, died at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica about 6 p.m. PT after being admitted earlier in the afternoon for chest pains, spokesman Jeff Abraham told Reuters.
Known for his edgy, provocative material, Carlin achieved status as an anti-Establishment icon in the 1970s with stand-up bits full of drug references and a routine about seven dirty words you could not say on television. A regulatory battle over a radio broadcast of his "Filthy Words" routine ultimately reached the U.S. Supreme Court.

Wow. My heart sunk when I read the title of this thread. George Carlin is one of the greatest comedians... well lets face it... ever. One of my favorite comics - he will certainly be missed.

RIP George.

No wonder I can't sleep. Great comic, but also someone who was very cerebral and a great reader of human behavior. He had us all pegged.

RIP

I got my brother tickets to see him a few years back for Christmas. Got him two, thinking he'd give me the other. He took my mom instead, cause she was a fan.

One of the greats. See you on the other side George!

Oh wow, he was just on tour! He was here in January.

I'm sure whatever the next life brings he'll have some irreverent things to say about it and the condition of the souls there, lol. One of those people you can see passing that would almost be kind of excited and interested about it, and not fearful at all.

Damn, this is a sad day indeed. I've spent countless hours on Youtube and TV watching his deadpan cynical comedy stylings. A legend in the comedy industry, to say the least. I think I might even shed a tear over this one....RIP, George.

I was at that show, too. I'll never forget it as long as I live.

When I heard the news, I just couldn't believe it. I haven't been this sad over a death since Owen Hart died back in 1999. I was actually watching one of his stand up routines on YouTube this afternoon.

RIP, you old ! We'll miss you!

Everybody is dying lately. Guess that is a sign of getting old

Everybody go Youtube some George Carlin. I remember I thought some of his early 80s shows were great.
