Some Are Amazing

I really the wheel from China and the egg from India.

The Dubai building is just insane in term of the height.

yep, not many have the simple but stunning presence of a Chrysler building anymore, especially in new york (since rent here is nutters, we typically just get big boxes these days). Personally I think all the best stuff is now in London and Spain.

Calgary's own skyscraper landmark is well on it's way though. The Bow should be a beaut.

It's great to see some beautiful buildings are still being built. I find the developers are all doing the same thing and very few are willing to step away from the norm. A scary thought if you think about it, these buildings leave a large thumb print on a city / the world.

Awesome buildings. One thing that caught my eye though:

"Bathrooms will monitor visitors' vital signs, like blood pressure and weight"

Hmmm, not too sure how the building will non-obtrusively assess this while patrons go to the bathroom. Maybe there will be a little hole in the wall...

This Spring I finally visited the La Defence area of Paris and I have to say it's a fantastic example of what can be done with proper planning. Great buildings, great open plazas, a real comfortable feel. If the East Village could come anywhere close to this level of planning I'd love it. Me thinks this is not something we'll see in our city though.

Most of that is actually under construction right now. The ones I immediately identify that have not been started are: Alberta Boot, Procura, Seed, Palliser towers, FCC2, and a smattering of smaller buildings. All of these are obviously to the planning stage or they wouldn't be listed so I wouldn't be surprised to see them finished as planned - unless of course oil dries up.

Yeah skyscraperpage.com is a great forum for those who like skyscrapers and development.

Skyscrapercity.com is another one that's geared more towards European developments.

There's some pretty amazing developments going on around the world, and most of it isn't happening in North America, the birthplace of skyscrapers. Places like the UAE, Kuwait, Jordan, Oman, etc. are basically building cities out of the desert, while Asia continues to boom with highrise construction. Europe is also getting into the act, although many European cities have very specific guidelines on how and where to build so as not to interfere with those cities' historic fabrics, which is good to see.
