E3 Thread
Nintendo just punched Microsoft and Sony in the mouth before anything has even happened announcing a 1:1 motion add-on for the Wii.

Expect Microsoft to announce some Wiimote knock-off at their press conference today. That's pretty clear with the timing of Nintendo's announcement.

Oh wow I totally forgot about e3 until this very moment. My work production just went through the floor for the next few days.
1:1 hey? I haven't looked at the article but I'm very interested as to how they did it. Personally this has probably been one of my top 3 problems with the wii. When it first came out I was excited for golf or sword games. Then I played around with it for a while and realized my dreams were never going to happen. Nice to hear I was wrong!
edit: oh that's pretty sweet.

There's a live chat from the 360 press conference right now on kotaku. I've decided to follow it instead of work for the next hour. I'll post if anything cool happens.

Looks like this presser might be worth watching after all - comparisons to Sony's legendary, terrible 2006 E3 press conference.

final fantasy XIII coming to 360 ... didn't see that coming
Maybe Sony needs to look at their "we won't pay for exclusivity" policy and make a few changes, like perhaps starting to pay for exclusivity lol.
That was a pretty rough conference right up until that little announcement at the end!

Wow, I guess I did get FFXIII news after all. I wonder if it's going to be a port from the PS3. If so, then I'll still stick to the PS3 version.

Basically one issue with the wii is that it only senses motion, not "where" it is in 3-d space. That is the reason that any game with an item involving a swinging motion (baseball bat, swords, lightsabers) basically has to translate a waggle of the wiimote into a pre-made animation. For instance, in wii sports baseball you can swing high or low and it doesn't really matter because the batter will always swing right in the middle. With this new add-on, the wii mote will be able to determine where and how it is being held for a much more accurate experience.

Basically it's able to exactly output the motion you give it. The easiest example is a lightsaber game. Instead of something like "you swing left, right, up, or down" and there's a different in-game move for each, swinging left and slightly downwards will have a different output than swinging straight left. I'm sure someone else can explain it better.
EDIT: From what I've read, it's basically just a remodeled Wiimote too. Nintendo will undoubtedly be debuting something major with it tomorrow at their press conference.

PS3 will still probably be the lead platform so it will be the better version if there is any differences between the two (which is pretty doubtful for a major release like FFXIII).
I didn't see it coming to the 360 though.

I'm wondering if I was reading too much into it when he kept saying "a version of FFXIII will be out on the Xbox" as opposed to just saying that they are bringing FFXIII to the Xbox.
Still, this is pretty shocking news to me and a lot of people, I imagine. The rest of the Microsoft keynote was pretty lackluster. Being able to have multiple people in a chat room is nice, but that only helps if you have friends

The article says that it's a wii-mote attachment. I wonder if they're going to announce a game compatible with the new add-on. Mario Baseball maybe?
I wish I could watch these vids at work!

Oh you're probably right! I was sitting around trying to think about what might come out for it and that never crossed my mind.

I've always thought it was weird how they are developing two versions of FFXIII: the normal one and FFXIII Versus. Could one of the versions be heading to the Xbox360?
Either way, Sony's really dropping the ball big time with the PS3. They're losing exclusives left and right. They really failed to ride the PS2's success into this current gen IMO. I think it's mostly due to Sony's arrogance in letting the PS2's success get into their heads. Now they're paying big time for it.

It makes some sense though. All the previews have been very critical of controls with the Wiimote thus far.
Perhaps the game is being designed around the 1:1 motion control and they were waiting for E3 to debut it.
Tiger Woods 2009 could be a possibility too. IGN keeps saying the devs are promising 1:1 control in their previews.

The FFXIII Versus was never said to be a PS3 exclusive, whereas FFXIII was. I think it is safe to assume that they mean FFXIII, which is very interesting to say the least.
On the point that Sony is losing exclusives, it helps a lot that Microsoft is willing to throw millions of dollars at people to sway them in a certain direction. Sony (for whatever reason) is opposed to shelling out cash for exclusives, for the time being. I wouldn't be shocked if they began to re-think this strategy.
