Calgary Stampede 2008
I am sure most of us received the Calgary Stampede guide in the mail this past week. Did any of you read page 52?
If not, here is a disgusting little summary.
"new and unique foods for 2008"- Deep-fried OREO
- Deep-fried Twinkie
- Pizza on a stick
- Bacon on a bun
- Beignets (French Doughnut)
- Deep fried Coke
- Taco in a bag
- Hot beef sundae (WTF?)
- Fried dough
- Frozen chocolate bananas
- Indian Taco
- Calzones
- London Broil
- Dippin dots
I know that the Stampede is a once a year event where people let loose and what not, but this is just sickening...
I think I felt my arteries hardening and heart clogging just after reading it.

I've always wondered of a way to make tacos better. Putting them in a bag certainly does that. Brilliant.

Call me crazy, but does anyone else think that the "Indian Taco" sounds like a dirty sex maneuver ranking up there with the "Hot Carl" and "Angry Pirate"?

It's coke tasting batter, then fried. Looks disgusting. I believe they had it last year. I've never tried, so I can't comment on the taste though.
I am so trying pizza on a stick.

The key is to go around the Stampede grounds and say to ladies, "Can I offer you a hot beef sundae?"

I can't imagine anyone feeding their child a deep fried twinkie, even if it is only once a year! That sounds disgusting. But a deep fried oreo? That makes me very curious. Probably as disgusting as the twinkie..but how can u make an oreo taste bad? I think I'd even try it myself.

I think I may try the hot beef sunday just to say I've tried it. And I'm sure if I can't finish it, one of my friends will.

All of these sound equally disgusting (exception: frozen bananas sounds decent), but I keep zeroing in on hot beef sundae. I keep disturbing myself with visions of what this may consist of and how it would taste.
I'm going to have to go to the grounds just to see what kinds of sins these people are cooking up.

The Dipping Dots are awesome. Wouldn't put anything else on that list even close to my mouth though.
But I have a feeling that the "Hot Beef Sundae" is just a cup of beef with gravy on top. They wouldn't put ice cream in there would they?

Maybe it is a sundae with gravy instead of fudge.
Sounds full of win, I will have 2.

Deep Fried Oreo

A popular fair and carnival food, just like the deep fried Snickers bars, it involves dipping an Oreo into a thick batter and popping it into a sizzling hot pot of oil. When pulled out, hot and crispy, they are topped with powdered sugar and served. According to many, they are delicious and more easily justifiable than a Snicker's due to their relatively small size. One blogger described them : "The Oreo loses it's hard crunchy texture and becomes a warm chocolately cake delight. The creamy center melts and creates an inner glaze."

Huh...Who even comes up with this stuff? It would literally never occur to me to dip an oreo in batter then fry it up.

The hot beef sundae actually looks like it may be pretty good for dinner.

Well, it's still an arterial nightmare, but it isn't as bad as what I first imagined. I kept throwing beef and ice cream together, with your choice of flavoured topping, maybe some sprinkles, waffle cone...you know, the usual.
Maybe next year they will have a deep-fried hot beef sundae.
