The only chance of finding games is if your cable system has the nhl network, which I think is on Comcast, but not a lot of others. Not sure how many games they'll show this year. VS. has no flames games scheduled this year. You'll probably get bruins games on NESN, and maybe some other area teams.
You'll have to order center ice, either via cable/satellite or online to really get a lot of games, unless you go the not so-legal online links route.

Hook up a Sling box. Then you can watch your own TV from anywhere, as long as you have decent connections on both ends.

Technically, this is not a dilemma. And it is most certainly not a 'dliemma'. A dilemma is when you are faced with two (or more) options, all of which have undesirable outcomes; or in pure logic when you are faced with two options, but both result in the same outcome so choosing between them is immaterial.
Either way, there needs to be an element of choice involved for a dilemma to exist. What you have, my friend, is a problem.

To watch... or not to watch... that is the question.

Well he does have two choices:
A: Stay here in Canada, and miss his trip.
B: Go on his trip, and miss some games.
That man has a dilemma!

NHL Center Ice tends to have the first few weeks of programming free as a sample to lure potential customers.... depending on the time you're there, and which cable (if any) network you get, you might be in luck.

Comcast dominates the NE I think, so he may be ok.
Cox also carries NHL network and NHL CI. They are another large cable provider in the US. Despite popular belief, it is actually expanding.

Just thought of another option...
Find a Nice sports bar and sweet talk the waitress into helping me find every Flames game I can.
Might cost me a bit in tips..but screw it...I'm on expenses anyway.

Well my experience is actually with Time Warner, so that clearly shows its available through many different venues! Now if only I could the games in HD...

I'm there now, finally. At least I think so. Bought my first HD LCD tv this spring and just upgraded to the HD DVR package with my cable company. I'm thinking this means I have HD if the games are broadcast in HD...and I'm thinking at least some of them are.
I have never seen anything in HD besides the nice beach scene you see at the electronics stores. I am preparing myself to be blown away. I hope it hasn't been overhyped!

Oh the picture will blow you away...but.
I was in the same shoes you were. Bought the sweet HD tv, had the sweet HD receiver, and the sweet HD programming. So I was expecting some HD hockey action with my NHL Center Ice. Not to be! Why? Because you have to make sure that your cable provider actually provides HD channels for those games to be shown in HD.
For me Time Warner still doesn't provide games in HD, so I was out of luck all season. The only HD games i saw were on ABC (and the NHL Network channel). Hopefully this season they upgrade...or else I'm leaving for satellite (starchoice provides Center Ice games in HD).

I'm in a similar situation. I have a wedding reception the night of the season opener. I think I'll be shot if I go through with my proposed idea of rather than wearing a suit & tie, I wear my Flames jersey with suit jacket.
I'm debating between heading to the hotel bar every now and again then watching the end of the game, or simply putting it on the DVR and watching Sunday morning

Just do the DVR....it saves you the headache, plus if the Flames get scored on 3 times in the first five minutes, you can just ffwd and save time, ha.
