Default Hockey getting some street cred?

First of all, please shoot me if I ever use the term "street cred" after this sentence.

That said, a friend just pointed this out to me. I'm still kind of just...confused. Reminds me of the days when Snoop Dogg would wear Penguins jerseys in videos.

At the 1:13ish mark of this song: "I'm skatin' on blades like Sidney Crosby..."

...I just can't stop laughing at this whole idea.

Edit: Ugh, whatever, someone remind me how to embed video?

Word, Sid grew up in Cole Harbour! When I was growing up, it was one of the toughest places to go to school in the entire province. Fortunately I didn't live anywhere near there. Some serious racial tension that seemingly escalated into brawls every other week for a while.

Hockey has been mentioned in hip-hop a few times.

Our very own C-town got repped by Jus Allah from Jedi Mind Tricks in 'Violent By Design':
'Till a brotha (bleepin) change, the lateral game
Like Calgary Flames, puttin' fire on ice
Put me in hell, pu-puttin' four nails to Christ!

Mario was mentioned in a song by Tribe Called Quest. Gretzky by Styles on a DMX album.

Pharoahe Monch had this line in his song 'Official'

Yo, I stick around like hockey, now what the puck
Cooler than f***, maneuver like Vancouver Canucks

That's not the end of the list but it's a start.

I don't know how much "street cred" those three rappers have anymore.

For a decent rap song (imo) check out the 1:55 mark of this Jedi Mind Tricks track

Edit: beatin by a few seconds...

I've seen Snoop Dogg in no less than 5 different hockey jerseys (including a Lethbridge Hurricanes jersey). He's a hockey fan.

How's this for street cred. I was coming home from work the other day and a real thugged out girl was wearing of all things, a 77 Ray Bourque Bruins throwback jersey. Fully lettered and all.

That was definitely not cool.

I'd love to see that, for pure hilarity. I mean, I understand seeing random thugged out guys you wouldn't expect wearing Pens jerseys, after the run they just had.

But a random throwback Bourque Bruins jersey? THAT is unexpected.

Trust me, I had a good laugh to myself over that.

Ray Bourque was quite the badass back in the day.
