Default Guilty Pleasure Movies

Fun topic that I was thinking about last night because it tells us a bit about you.

Which older movie(s) continually draw you to watch them when they come on T.V. or a movie channel. Even though you swear that your not going to watch them, you flip over to them and end up pretty much not leaving.

For me there are two

1) Starship Troopers - I don't know whether its designed to make fun of the optimistic war propaganda films of the second World War, the story of an earth under military rule with a ruthless bent, or the fact that the characters for the most part are pretty cool, but I find that I've probably watched this stupid movie a hundred times.

2) Red Dawn - Same as the above, the typical kick the bad guys ass while sacrificing every thing story line. The fact that the Soviet Military Hardware is exceptionally well done, or that Lea Thompson was just hot and dirty back then. But that movie comes on and I end up watching it.

Showgirls....seeing Jesse Spano ride the dude in the swimming pool is probably the funniest scene in cinematic history

Cliffhanger....saw it when I was 11 in the theatre and thought it was the greatest movie ever made. And I still believe it's fantastic. Love the English dude and the soccer speech as he's kicking the crap outta the dude. One of the very few movies that I liked as a kid, and still like as an adult. Jesus, I used to think Judge Dredd was quality.

Robocop....my very first R rated movie, saw it when I was 5. loved it, mimicked many scenes. Watched it recently, my god, what was my mom thinking letting me watch that as a 5 year old?? That movie is gory as hell, and the dude who crashes into toxic waste and then gets run over by a car is sheer brilliance.....Over the top gore at its finest. Re-watch the scene, look at skin melting.....it's awesome.

Hmmm.....2 of my 3 films are Paul Verhoeven's. One of Captain Crunch's is as well. Alright, someone put Basic Instinct and Total Recall on their list.

edit^^^^I hadn't seen you wrote Total Recall until I posted my comment about it above......hahahahahah

For me, lots of bad comedies seem to fall into this category. I swore I would never watch Anger Management again because I was so disappointed the first time, but then I somehow ended up buying it at the cash con to watch with a friend that adored the movie. Now it just seems to keep coming back every so often...

I own both of those movies. hah.

Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein is amazing. Much better than the movie.

Scarface, I own the movie but every time I'm flipping through the channels and spike is playing it for the 100th+ time I end up tuning in for a bit at least. Same with the Godfather, Casino and Goodfella's. Speaking of which, I think I'll watch Scarface tonite.

Maybe not a guilty pleasure but still one flick that I can't flip by.

Gymkata - 1984 Olympic gold medal gymnast Kurt Thomas stars as a gymnast who gets hired by the US government to enter "The Game", a tortuous marathon in the country of Parmistan. The winner of "The Game" gets his or her wishes granted by the country, which in this case is for the US to install a Star Wars Defense satellite within the country's borders. The movie involves tons of parallel bar, pummel horse and overall flipping and cartwheeling action...oh and plenty of ninjas.

Who am I kidding? This isn't a guilty pleasure. The movie is just plain FREAKIN' awesome. The cover alone makes me want to watch the movie again.

Don't think it would be considered a guilty pleasure, it's become such a cult favorite these days. I dunno, I consider a movie a guilty pleasure when it's widely known as being a terrible movie.

For the record, Scarface and Goodfellas tied for my fav flicks of all time.

INCONCEIVABLE!

I could watch the princess bride over and over again. Though I don't know if it would be considered a guilty pleasure because it just rocks.

Favorite movie when I was a kid. The scene where it busts through the basement wall and they start shooting the hell out of it is classic.

Bio Dome is one of mine. I also am a big fan of teen comedies from the late '90s. 10 Things I Hate About You is my favorite.
