Yeah, it was the same thing with the Virgin festival last month. Everyone jumped on it saying it was brutal, and we shouldn't accept the line-up, because it was bigger in other cities. Well, I also anticipated a bit better line-up, but then I went "wait a minute, a drunken weekend rockin out to Stone Temple Pilots, tragically hip, flaming lips, matthew good, corb lund, what the hell is so bad about this" ande I had a blast!
..and as is the case with the Virgin festival (proven in other v-fests in the world); support it (Calgary sold out the two day event) and it will return bigger and better, or pout about the line-up and don't support it, and it will get cancelled (as was the case in Vancouver)
You gotta just enjoy life, or you'll die early.....
You can pout about v-fest and stay home, or you can go to it and have a blast, regardless of the fact that it didn't attract the top acts in the world, it was still a solid line-up, and eberyone there had a blast.
You can pout about a secret band at a beer tent not being a top act, or you can go to it and tap your toes to "life is a highway" ala Fotze.
You can complain that a small sideshow stage (coke stage) doesn't attract A-list bands (as if any A-list bands would agree to play on that tiny stage at a free carnival show), or you can pick the bands that interest you most, realize it's a free show, get drunk a have a blast with your friends.
If you want to see top selling acts, then be prepaired to see them at the saddledome, and be prepared to pay top act prices. U2 and radiohead aren't going to magically appear in a beer tent for some lucky contest winners (as was the case last year, when they had that mystery band play at Morgan's pub on 17th ave, Van Halen was playing that night, and everyone though that Van Halen would be the secret band, and were dissapointed when it was Sloan).
